remove crankshaft pulley (not the bolt)

I got the bolt off no problem by putting the truck in 5th and having my wife stand on the brake.

Any tips on getting the pulley itself off? I can't get leverage on anything to pry it off, does anyone have any tricks?

I sprayed mine with some PB Blaster and tapped it with a rubber mallet to brake it loose, then it just slid right off.

A steering wheel puller works great if it's really stuck after hitting it with a penetrating oil like PB blaster.

Here's one example:

Your local auto parts store may have a kit like this that they loan for a deposit fee.

throw a gear puller on there!! hell, if it bends, i always like to say "man made it, man can fix it"

you can always find a new pulley, its good to get one off without damage, but if you cant, theres plenty of spares. stuff happens man, what the heck ya gonna do?

Thanks guys. I was hoping there was a Friday night work around.

A puller is probably a good thing to have, especially for $10.

actually, while ur pulling it with the puller, apply LIGHT pressure, and then apply heat at the same time. something stronger then propane, and lighter then oxy-acetylene. maybe map gas?

if it's that tight you might wanna order some new crank keys as well. I had that problem as well, had to use a puller the first time. It was because as some point the P.O. damaged those crank keys. 3vze only needs 1 according to LCE.

One of the few things I would order from LCE: http://www.toyotacatalog.net/M1WebGe...7-D468AD6C4C1D
