Relocating Transfercase cooler??

So with the addition of Downey headers on my 3.0/auto, my transfercase cooler is once again homeless.....

I know there are write-ups on how to relocate it behind the t-case, but I cant seem to find any.

What have others done? How important is the cooler itself?

TC---duh

I want to move it either by the radiator or behind the t-case, but it has some strange fittings. I may just source some new lines and be done with it.

I'd just go up to the nearest part store, pick up some brass fittings and a few feet of hose and relocate it to wherever your heart's content.

But that's just me.

if you want to mount it right to the rad then you have to get some bigger zip ties and a few plastic washers then you just feed one side though the both of them with the washers of course and then cut the tip off the other zip tie and tie it down you know?

I would do the same, I just dont have any info on thread size or fittings needed to attach the cooler.

Xfer case cooler? Is that what that is? I saw that under there when I got my '91, 3VZE. I thought it was an aux tranny cooler, but thought it was strange that it wasn't up by the radiator, but didn't look at it too close.

So the tranny is only cooled by the radiator then huh?

Disconnect the hoses, and take it all up there with ya to the store. Do it the old fashion way: matching threads to threads and size to size.

I had mine zip tied to the frame for a few weeks until I decided what to do. We made a flat bar that I could bolt to the frame using the existing cooler mounting bolts. We made the bar extend a few inches farther back than the rear bolt. Then we welded the mount to the new bar...shifting the cooler about 2" back. None of the lines had to be changed to make this work. I did have to cut the corner off the shield to make it fit with the crossover but seems to be working fine so far.

If this is totally confusing I'll try to get a couple pics tomorrow after work.
