regearing for 33s
im looking to re gear my truck to 5.29s i got the gears cheap from a friend
but i want to install them my self. ive been searching all day and havnt had any luck with finding a write up on how to regear the diffs. ya i know what your gonna say go get them installed by someone who knows what there doing but that's out of my price range due to the fact my gf is pregnant so trying to save as much as possible. so does anybody have a step by step instructions on how to re gear Toyota diffs or point in the right direction to find it thanks for the help

is it really that complicated to do it yourself? im just askin I know nothin about it but i was thinkin bout regearing to 4:88, however that seems extremely complicated and like it involves alot of tools that are not really available haha

regearing to 4.88s is EASY if you get a used set of factory 4.88s from a runner. they bolt right in. 4.88s are perfect for 33s. 5.29s will have the rpms higher for cruising but would probably be ok for around town or offroad.

if you regear your current diffs yourself and you don't know what you're doing i'm sure it is hard. but i'm saying you could just get a set of front and rear differentials with 4.88s already inside and just swap them with your current diffs. that's easy.

If you GF is pregnant, and you looking to save money why spend any? That is not actually saving anything, still money out.
Ok so anyway, I think with 33s you would be better off with the 4.88 ratio for everyday use and 4wheelin.

setting up gears is not easy, especially for the first timer.
the average mechanic does not have the $400+ dollars worth of sst's needed to do the job properly. not to mention the tools that need to be made to make the job easier. the first diff i ever setup was my own, i changed the pattern on it like 10+ times before i was happy lol. though after about 7 or 8 more gear installs, it only takes me about 3 times to get it right.
if you read this site - http://www.gearinstalls.com/ , you will have a better idea of what it takes to properly install gears. keep in mind zuk is a pro, so he kind of makes it look easy

are you auto or standard? 4cyl or v6? im auto v6 with 33's 4:88, i feel like i need to regear because i lost a more than noticeable amount of power when i went to 33's. i still do great on the trail but it could be better. keep in mind though that a lot of guys are geared WAY less with more stress. but consider this sites info.http://www.brian894x4.com/Gearratiosanddiffs.html

Anyone bother to ask what he's got for rig?
22re or V6?
Manual or auto?
Pickup or 4Runner?
What was stock?
My personal experience:
22re, manual, pickup.
Started with 4.10's and the small 28" tires. Went to 31" mud tires and steel wheels, with 4.10's still. It was a dog. Swapped in 4.56's, it was zippy and high revving (great for traffic and around town, really high revving on the highway). Speedo was 5 too fast. I bought some new 33" x 12.5 BFG A/T's still with the 4.56's. No complaints. Fairly hilly area, no problems. Speedo is back to stock. I like this setup.
I could go with 35" tires cuz I have a set of factory 4.88's.
