refilling power steering fluid
I have a 90 4x4 with 22re and just changed power steering pump and gear box and was needing to know how to refill the steering fluid, do I just fill the reservoir to the mark or what.

Between a quart or two of ATF, not power steering fluid unless installing complete aftermarket steering that requires ps fluid like full hydro, then use expensive synthetic stuff. Fill up reservoir. Put front on jackstands. Run engine. Cycle steering 20 times. Let it sit 30 minutes for air to get out. Repeat until no bubbles after cycling and then fill reservoir to "hot" line. Works for hydro assist too.

I followed the part that says undo the return line and plug off the bottom of the res and dump fluid into container till no air comes out. went through a qt and a half that way so I guess I gave it a good flush then. Never did put it on stands though. Still think there is some air in mine. Got to get back out there and do some more.

Above way takes longer but heck of a lot less trouble or mess. Go do something else while you're waiting. Works every time.
Note the above procedure is with the reservoir cap OFF.
