Red brake light on dash won't go off!
I have a 1992 4WD extra cab 3VZE-powered truck w/ 181.3k on the clock.
Things I need to fix so that I can pass inspection:
a) Weld the pin holes shut around the O2 bung on the down pipe (tonight)
b) Replace the left outer tie rod end (today)
c) Wire switches to the four 7" fog lights I installed on my Aussie brand aluminum bull guard (hopefully finish tomorrow)
d) Get the red "brake" idiot light to turn off that shows up below the tachometer.
I thought that it could be the switch mounted under the dash that gets turned off when the e-brake is disengaged. I pushed the switch in by hand, and the light dims, but does not go out. Also, I couldn't find anything on the emergency brake that actually depresses this switch to close it.
Are there any other sources that could turn the brake light on the dash on or not? My brake fluid is full and I even took the cap off and turned it upside down to simulate it being full/overfull to make sure that if it was one of the culprits, it would turn the light off.
Replies ASAP appreciated as I only have 8 more days till my pink dead inspection sticker is completely dead, and the pigs can pull me over and ticket me.
Thanks a lot!

just unplug the light in the dash if you dont get it figured out in time. but make sure you stay on top of it, brakes are important.

found it but wtf?
Seems as though the culprit is the switch under the dash whose push button sw is parallel to the e brake rod. Of course, I must be missing something, as there's NOTHING attached to the ebrake handle/rod to close the switch the the ebrake is released.
I unplugged the switch, and wa-la! That annoying light on the dash went out.
Does anyone have a pic of what is attached to the ebrake handle that depresses the switch to turn the dash light off?
I'll leave that switch unplugged as it's obviously bad (only dimmed when switched off by hand) and now remove my tie rod from the truck and put it in a vice and attack trying to remove the TRE w/ a BIG ARSE pair o' vice grips and/or plumbers wrench. (Holding the tie rod tight against the oil pan w/ a motorcycle tie down and vice gripping the end of the TRE didn't give me enough torque.... Already hit em both hard several times w/ a hammer and applied required amount of PB Blaster!)
Off to weld exhaust holes shut and hopefully remove TRE w/o having to do what I did w/ the right side 2 yrs ago...buy an entire new tie rod!
Thanks,
Schump
