I THINK I'll leave the base of the HUB metal, like it comes from the factory. I'll just clean them real good. Than i'll do theouter part of the dial hammered grey and the part you turn (the actual dial) red. Than do all the words (LOCK,FREE) in white. I cna free hand those with a small paintbrush and model paint.

I doubt you really needed that rebuild kit

But post up pictures when you get everything together and paint them.

I wish I took pics of my hub re-build. I got too excited to wait for my camera

You can get all gaskets at the dealership, I grabbed them there.

The rubber o-ring is usually in fine shape. Not many people take these things apart

And the bolts can be found at any hardware store. I will find my bag with a few spares in it to make sure of the bolt kind.

*edit*

Here is the bolt specs

"M6-1.0x16MM " mine where labled as 1" M6x16mm bolts.

Me too about the dealer. I did break one of my o rings so I went ahead and got those too. If you want I can send you some bolts. I didn't know about the Downey kit and thought allen head bolts would be cool. Got 'em through McMaster-Carr. Black metal too!! But I had to buy 100 of 'em so i got plenty to spare. Let me know.

yes, as Avaitor pointed out, there are 4 gaskets total for both hubs.
A gasket that seals the hub to the truck, and the gasket that seals the dial to the hub body.
I.E Star shaped = hub body-dial gasket
Round gasket= hub body to truck gasket.
Both available at the dealer for around 10 bucks

No problemo, now you have no excuses to not get your hubs rebuilt and installed

Are you sure the spring is not stuck inside the dial? Mine were due to grease. I had to use a paper clip end to grab onto it and slide it out.

Wab fab has the spring and ball for like $5 and $1 shipping. Look at the Downey rebuild kit here: http://www.downeyoff-road.com/Chassi...riveTrain.html
It shows all the gaskets, 2 round rubber, 2 star paper, and 2 round paper. 1 of each goes on each side, and you may not need the rubber ones, just depends on what kind of shape yours are in. Then you need the bolts. I looked up mine again and they were about 10 cents each, then if you want a couple of extras and whatever they cost to mail. You can PM me if your interested. Here is the part number and site. 91239A318

I have a paint question..Im leaving the BASE of the HUBs raw metal...than painting the outsdie ring hammered grey. Its reay dark, and also the same color as my wheels. WHAT COLOR should I paint the dials? LEave them red and do white letters? Paint them white and do black letters. Just throw me some ideas.

Ha!! One day your going to be cleaning (or in my case moving is the only reason to clean) and you're going to find a whole closet full of hub gaskets.

I have a real old set for SFA that were blue so I went with that, but my truck is blue too. If I had no other obvious reason to change it I would personally just stick with the red. OR... what have you got free in the garage right now?
