Rebuild '94 pickup transmission?
Hey eveyrone,
Here is the short:
I have a '94 pickup, 2wd with 163,xxx, auto. The thing wasn't shifting in high so I took it in to have it looked and am told that I no longer have 4th or overdirve. The guy wants to charge me $285 to pull the transmission out to figure out the problem. His estimate, low end, without looking at anything is $1200 but he said that it could go as high as $3000. Is it worth it to have it fixed or should I start looking around for another ride? Thanks for the help.

For the cost of diagnosis i'd imagine you could find a good used tranny to throw in there. I wouldn't sell the truck just cause of this but I deffinately wouldn't pay $3300 for a new tranny either. Its not that hard to swap trannys if your up to it. should only take a couple hours or so for an experianced mechanic with hand tools.

That guy is smoking crack! You can a BRAND NEW genuine Toyota transmission from 1sttoyotaparts.com for $1,400. I would take it somewhere else for another estimate.
