Rear Sag: FJ Cruiser Springs on 4Runner 2nd Gen? Alternative compatible coils?
I've been researching low cost options to fix the rear sag on my 2nd gen 4Runner. I figure that an extra 1.5-2" lift wouldnt hurt and I also don't want to have to upgrade/replace any of the linkages.
From reading around, it appears that the most common way to accomplish this would either be to install a spacer or go with the OME 900 series coils. I am not interested in using the FJ80 Land Cruiser coils as it appears that gives 3-4" life and would require linkage modifications.
I came across this interesting post on using FJ Cruiser coils, which can be sourced cheaply, for use on the 3rd gen rear end:

Does anyone know if the FJ Cruiser's coils can also be used on a 2nd gen 4Runner to accomplish a 1.5-2" lift as well? Or are there other coils out there that can be an alternative? I couldn't find too many detailed dimensions on the stock rear 4Runner coils as a comparison.

FJ80 springs for a 2nd Generation 1990-1995 4Runner.
Here are a couple links to get you started. As far as I know the coil seats on 2nd gen runners have a larger diameter then FJ coils. I could be wrong. FJ80 coils are even easier to come by (around here at least) and work like a charm.

Give the lower half of this page a good look, it is the part you will need if you use FJ80 coils in the rear to keep the rear axle centered.

You could make the FJ Cruiser coils work I'd imagine but I think it would take some fabrication. FJ80 coils go right in. I think FJ cruiser coils are more aimed at 3rd gen or later rear junkyard lifts.

From what I'm reading, the FJ80 coils will give 3" lift, which is too much IMO since I'm running 31x10 tires and might even go for a smaller 225/75/15 in the future for fuel economy.

Just did it a couple weekends ago. Worked well, looks good. I will say pay close attention when you're seating them, make sure they're seated well and in the right position. Yes, the coil seats have a larger diameter, the spring sits more on top of it instead of completely around. I've flexed it to the max on trails in my neighborhood testing for movement/issues and so far so good. Hoping to get in a real trail run soon but still gonna play close to home until I'm 100% confident. Wabbit, sorry about the emails on my brake line, I was anxious to git 'er done! NorCalBorn, thanks for the advice! He's been talkin about this spring swap for a few years now but no one's been listening.
Despite my shaky tape measuring skills, I'm sitting at about 37.5" all the way around(slightly lower on the passenger side of course). Solid 2" lift in the rear, no need for BJ spacers to level and I can run 33's with minimal work up front. $60 for springs(rockauto), $60 for shocks(scratch n dent special), $60 for panhard bracket, $20 for lspv bracket. Very happy with the set up.

So those came off the rear of an FJ Cruiser? Leveled the truck out nicely, looks good! I didn't think they would fit after searching but yours look like they fit pretty well.

Yes FJC coils and thanks! Only thing I didn't pay close enough attention to was if there was a long coil and a short coil. Kicking myself for that. No markings and they looked the same sitting next to each other. Might pull 'em out and check or just run thru this tank of gas and measure again. The passenger side is a 1/2" lower front and rear. Front could be from prior front end damage, damn deer!

Nice! FJC coils it is. Thanks for your post. Few questions:
1. You said the lift from using the FJ coils is only 2". Is the panhard and lspv bracket a necessity? Are brake line modifications in general necessary with that amount of lift?
2. How do you find the ride? From pictures it seems that the FJ coils are thicker so I would expect a firmer ride.

2" above fairly new Moog coils. Yes on the brake line, extended shocks, panhard and lspv brackets. The ride is firm but good, new shocks made as much of a difference as well with that.

I've heard that the 80 series LC coils springs will fit onto a 95 4runner, and so I went to buy some and I accidentally bought 100 series LC coil springs. Does anyone know if these will fit onto a 95 4runner? I thought I would ask here considering this is the thread for alternate coil springs.
