rear pinion question

i just got my gears done,( yukon 5.29s F+R + install kits, and everything in the rear was replaced, seals, shims ect... and now my rear pinion is leaking again, i cant tell if its from the seal and where the 3rd bolts to the housing, and while under i realized theres a lot of play in my driveshaft while in gear, as in rotating it back in forth , (not the u-joint) theres like an inch of play....is this nornal??

thanks in advance

where the 3rd bolts to the axle housing, did you use a paper gasket or just silly-cone it?

I would clean and degrease everything, then keep a close eye on it; that's really the only way you'll pinpoint where the leak's coming from...

there should be some play.. about .008" backlash between R/P, and there is some play in the spider gears also.

a full rotation?

haha, holy crap, yeah I'd say something's up with that... that's WAY too much slop. I'm no rear-end expert (no pun intended); I'd definately be taking it back to the shop that installed the gears.

did you just bring up the 3rd to them and they installed the gears and you bolted the 3rd on your truck yourself, or did they do the whole install?

It is normal for a locker to show more backlash than the stock diff, but what you are describing is WAY too much!
