Rear Main Seal Retainer

Just about finished with my post-87 22re rebuild at the bottom end but the old one I found turns out to be missing the Rear Main Seal Retainer and I can't find a place on the internet? Anyone know where there may be new or used aftermarket or original I can get one? Anyone out there have an extra one laying around? Thanks. Or at the least Know if I can move on with the rebuild (this is my first one) with the head and mating the two together untill I can find one? It seams like it could wait untill the end but I'm just checking? Thanks.

Your crankshaft had no rear main installed and didn't hemorrhage oil into your bellhousing? You're missing the metal part that bolts to the block and the rear main seal presses into, right? I can't imagine that not causing massive leaks if it's not there.

It's independent of the head, so you can do what you want on the head until you fix this, but I'm not sure what you mean...have photos?

Let me clearify, I bought an long block off craigslist that I am rebuilding. Now that I've disassymbled, machined, and now rebuilding I just now noticed (this being my first attempt at a rebuild) that the engine didn't have the metal bolt on piece that holds the rear main seal..... I've looked on the internet and can't find a source for one. Any help would be great....

Check with a local machine shop. Many have a bunch of cores laying around. Maybe a bone yard?

I probably have one but I'm in Tucson.
