rear glass question
not sure how to word the title but here goes, i did search but to no avail
has anyone ever just removed the glass and replaced it with a piece of plexiglass....BUT...put hinges on it and made it flip up on the hard top like the YJ's and TJ's ?? seems like it would be a fairly straight forward piece of fabbing...yes/no ?

I've seen that done on a 1st gen 4runner before. In my opinion, it looks weird and takes away the "cool factor" of having the option of rolling the back window down.

Cool factor? You must be out of your mind.
About the worst thing toyota EVER did to first gen and second gen 4runners and FJ55's was put in an electric window.
In the cold it freezes, and you can't drive with it down because it sucks in exhaust.
Friggin retarded piece of crap.
I am very interested in doing this too. If someone has shots of it done well, I'd be extremely happy to see it.

yea...mine is an 89 4runner...with removable top....the problems i'm having are the reason i'm considering doing it this spring/summer...
...the problems...the rear seal is gone so now i have 4 inches of solid ice sitting in the bottom of the tailgate....oh..and the motor doesnt' work and needs to be rewired from the relay so i can't open my tailgate, even if it did work i can't do it anyway with all the ice built up in it
...i am going to do this in the spring...one way or another...it can't be that hard...well the hard part will be making it look somewhat decent

try this one out use the latch from a blazer or something with it in and cut the top out sides so that the glass can go into the org spot then but hinges on the inside so that you can hide them with a not so good fiberglassing and then trow some lifts on from the truck you took the latch from simple im going to be doing this this summer as well as the fact that i dont have a back window anymore and a nice cut up pease of plexi but yeah not to hard sounds easy when i do it and you still need help ill take pics and do a write up on it

First of all, I'm very interested in seeing some pics when you get it done.
Second of all, please punctuate. I can barely follow your post.
