Im gona try and get axles out this weekend and pull the third member out. If i push on the pinion it has movment. Is marlin crawler about the best place to get parts? Once i get it apart and see whats need im gona order the parts to fix it. And how can i figure out what the gears are? The guy i got truck from said it was regeared before he got it but didnt know the ratio

I am not sure how to find the gear ratio. Somehow you turn the wheel and count the driveshaft revolutions and divide. Sure someone will jump in and help you figure out what you have. Trail Gear and Just Differentials may have what you need as well.

If you pull out the 3rd member, you can just count the teeth on the pinion and on the ring and calculate the ratio = Nteeth_ring/Nteeth_pinion

If you want to do it on the vehicle, the most accurate way is to jack up one wheel and rotate it 20 times while counting the turns of the drive shaft. The number of turns of the drive shaft is 10x the ratio (so, if the drive shaft turns 45 times, you have a 4.56 gear ratio.) This assumes you have an open diff and the other wheel isn't turning.

Check both the front and rear while you're at it. Given the apparent (lack of) quality of the rework on the diff, there's no guarantee the front and rear are the same.

And, like I said earlier, if you get in over your head on this, give Mr. Zuk a call at gearinstalls.com. He knows all about this stuff.

i'm gonna go ahead and state the obvious. there's seems to be a loose bearing in there. you are already gonna have to change the fluid and pull the right axle, might as well put the 3rd member on the bench.. may just need a little adjustment. did you get play from that wheel bearing? first thing i would do is make sure the pinion nut is torqued to spec by placing the one wheel on the ground or both, or using a big prybar on the lug studs. if it is, loosen it just a little. this is the hardest part to do on the bench and may need to pull a shim out. remember that if you are tightening it and it binds up and won't spin, don't keep tightening as it needs more shims.

I planed on pulling the 3rd member to see whats goin on with it. And the wheel bearing moved inward/outward very minimal on the right side but if im going that far any way i mise well put all new bearings and seals in it so that i know its good to go
