Rear drum help

Alright so I just bought a 87 4wd and it has some issues with the passenger rear drum. I kept hearing some metal on metal squealing and what sounded like a popping and clunking type sound ( like throwing a wrench into a piece of machinery) best way I can describe it. Well my first thought was rear end but couldn't get any noise out of the rearend and when I grabbed the lug nuts on the pass wheel to check wheel bearing they were on fire hot I could feel the heat radiating from the drum. I've backed the star wheel all the way off and the brakes are still very tight. The driver side rear will make a full revolution Spin with a little push from one hand. The parking brake will pull 26 clicks before it stops. My main question here is where should I start looking?? I'm a complete novice to drum brakes. Thanks for any advice. Also the pedal goes almost all the way to the floor. Mc maybe? Could a bad mc cause just one rear tire to stay engaged like that?

Red face

Look to see if the bell crank is seized .This being part of the Emergency brake linkage.

That happens quite a bit

Bell crank isn't seized. They did have a gap between them and backing plate I adjusted so that they don't and that didn't help. Drums are coming off tomorrow hopefully. Brake job, wheel bearings, seals while I'm at it.

Clunk? Pedal to the floor? Red hot drum?

I'm going to guess that the problem will be very obvious once you pull the drum. You owe us a picture of what you find.

Did you burn your hand very bad??

Are we talking red hot as in the tire blew from the air pressure in the tire from the glowing drum heat hot.

Well got the drums off and the pads are pretty much non existant. Still not sure why the pass side was so hot the drum came off with almost no effort with two jacking bolts in the drum. The driver side slide right off but it looks like someone took a case of grease and packed it all in the drum?? The wheel bearings are shot so axles are coming out as well today. My differential has a lot of slop on the input shaft so perhaps it'll come out as well and I'll just have a new rearend by the time it's all over

Driver side full of gear oil that passed the inner seal, bad bearing and outer seal, effectively negating the braking power on that side. Passenger side metal to metal from having no shoe left, heating the drum. Sounds like new drums, shoes, seals and bearings for a start.
