I want to fix my sagging rear end on my 88' 4runner. I know new leafs are the best way, but I don't want to spend that money right now. Would a 2" block or shackle be better or what are the pros and cons of each?

Get some add-a-leafs. The are inexpensive, and will stiffen up the rear suspension at the same time. Not so much sway in turns. The rear 4runner springs are a little too soft for the weight of the 4runner (same springs as the pickup, but more weight).

id just go with an add a leaf kit, like 1 leaf per pack, maybe 2, there are places that you can get a pair of leafs for like 50 bucks. If not that go with shackles, at least you gain articulation that way. Blocks are the WORST thing for your leaf packs. I threw some 2" blocks in mine just to equalize it while i saved up for some 5 leaf packs from all pro, the blocks made teh leafs sag so much after serious offroad use the leaf springs were bending the wrong direction because of all the pressure in their center

basicaly ,one comment: GET BOTH ! end of discution, but just to tell you i got the blocks first and i was satisfied,really rugged ,got an accident with it ,broke an axle,and the blocks never moved a dime.make sure you tight those U-bolts real TIGHT!

by the way 4crawler make GREAT shackles i got a set recently and im really satisfied.

if I get shackles, do I need to get shims? And if I do what degree do I need for 2" lift shackles?

I thought 4-runners had coils(maybe only th newer ones). I would go with a 1 inch block. A 1 inch wont be a big deal (no big time axle wrap ect.) Eventually you'll need to get new springs. Aa add-a-leaf will really stiffen your ride up and give u the equivilant lift so be prepaired for the stiffended up ride. I would'nt get shackels to difficult, mess with pinion angle. Best is to get new springs, but you cant. Then I say add-a-leafs, then blocks, then shackels.
