Rear axle swap

I am new to the site, however I am looking for a replacement for my rear axle. I have read some threads that say the rear is as strong as a 1-ton. However my problem is I'm pulling 38.5x16.00's soon to be 39.5 iroks. I have 5.29's and lockers. After finishing a hill climb last month. (in 2wd low) I noticed the rear end making noise on the way home...Once I got home I took the 3rd member out to investigate. The gears had been sliping and metal was everywhere. After buying another gear set and master install kit, I went to install it. When I started breaking the 3rd member apart I noticed a crack going straight down the bottom of it. Would reinstalling another 8 inch 3rd member solve my problem or do I need to upgrade to a bigger stronger rear end?

Toyota axles are strong...but not 1 ton strong, 39s will be pushing the Toy axles. Not that they wont take it but, yes upgrade to a V6 3rd, and 4130 shafts.

I'm hoping with 39s...IFS is not present

Actually, the 4WD Toyota axels are indeed 1 ton units. 38" - 40" is the practical limit for them though. Best chance of success is a V6 third and the full float kit from FROR.

Gear install is going to be CRITICAL. Check here for some tips:

But if you really wheel hard enough to need 39.5's, you should probably just go straight to a 9" or D60 and skip all the intermediate heartbreak.
