Hi all,
Just ordered a radiator fan shroud because the '94 4Runner I just bought was missing one. It came today, and as I expected, it did not have screws. The radiator does not have the old screws attached to it anymore either.
I was hoping that someone would be awesome and post a picture of the screws and how long they are and possibly the diameter. Or if someone really smart just happens to know what size/length screws I need to pick up that would be great!
It looks as though I can just drop it in and screw it on, no? Maybe I might have to disconnect a hose.

you can go to www.toyotapartszone.com and punch in your VIN and see all kinds of diagrams and orders parts like that.

that is likely unnecessary since those are just some small pieces that can probably be picked up at a hardware store. no size known by me....so I'm out as far as specific help goes.

Thanks. I'm sure that will come in handy eventually. I was just hoping someone could tip me off as to what size screws I need so I don't have to buy 10 different ones and hope one fits.

Just go to the autoparts store and get a box of metric machine screws in various sizes. I think the last time I picked up one of those boxes was at Auto Zone. I bet the correct thread pitch and size is in there.

I think the size is m6, not sure on pitch, but I believe that is the correct size, and length should be about 3/4"

Where did you get the shroud? How much?

On my '94 truck 3VZE, the shroud has a removable piece on the bottom. I need to remove the upper radiator hose, and then the shroud (minus the bottom removable piece) will slide right into position. Put in your new m6-15 machine screws, then reinstall the bottom piece.

I would go to my local pick-n-pull, pay my $1 to get in, find a Toyota with the same engine(doesn't even matter), get the bolts and leave.
Done. 4 bolts for $1 and a little time...

M6 x 1.0 x 20mm. Stock have 2 thin(~1mm) washers too. 1 split/lock washer on top of 1 fender washer.
When that doesn't work:

1. Drain the coolant.
2. Remove the radiator.
3. Install the shroud to the radiator, leaving off the bottom clip.
4. Carefully, it's a tight fit, install the radiator with the shroud on it.
5. Install the bottom clip to the shroud.
6. Refill the coolant.

That's for a 3VZE atleast, I don't know how it works for a 22RE. I just know if you try getting it in/out of there on any 3VZE I've seen, you're asking for a miracle. You'll end up breaking it trying to figure out that it's not possible. I may end up eating my words someday, but I've seen 2 3VZE fan shrouds broken because some dumbass thought he could get it off first. I was the dumbass on the first one, then I found out somebody else I know did the same thing.

Me, I'd go 3 blocks up the road and buy them brand new at the hardware store for the same $1. Occasionally I'll have to go a few blocks further to NAPA or CARQUEST(the only reason I EVER go to CQ is for hardware). The price is generally slightly higher at those joints though(especially so for CQ, can you say "Gyp Joint"?).

On my 86 those screws have larger heads to holt the plastic.
And if i remember correctly, there's not enough clearance to install it without first removing the fan. Then they go in together.

Thanks guys. I stopped by the Toyota dealership since it's right down the road and they ordered the screws for me. They'll be here tomorrow morning and they only cost a couple bucks.
I got the shroud from partsgeek.com. It's one piece.

I think, then, that you have a 22RE. True?

Nope. 3.0. When I put it in this morning I was looking at it and it looks like there could be a part that attaches to the bottom portion. Maybe I just got the main piece? Not sure. 3 out of the 4 screws lined up perfectly. The nut for the other one was on the wrong part of the radiator. It looks like a newer radiator, so maybe that's why, but I just zip tied the last one. It holds nice and tight, and it quieted things down quite a bit.
Does anyone have pictures of the 2 part shroud removed from the truck so that I could see if mine matches up?

Thanks. I'm missing that second part. Is it a big deal? Doesn't look like it could really make THAT much of a difference.

I don't know how much difference it really makes to be honest with you.

What I do know is:

A. Toyota calls it a No. 2 Fan Shroud, the other being No. 1 of course. All 3VZEs have it. 22REs have an almost indentical No. 1 Fan Shroud as the 3VZEs, but only 22REs that have automatic transmissions and radiators with the optional transmission fluid cooler have a similar No. 2 Fan Shroud. Draw your own conclusions here, but it's pretty obvious as to what it's intended purpose is.

B. I drove my 3VZE for about year with neither of the shrouds, and it didn't seem to make a difference. Not a noticeable one anyway. In the middle of summer/winter the temp gauge showed pretty much the same without 'em as it did with 'em. But I do have both of them on there now. Just in case they do help. They definitely don't appear to hurt so... .

I (generally) defer to MudHippy's knowledge of different models. All I can contribute is 1) PartsGeek claims the only part they have is for the 22RE, 2) The picture PartsGeek uses does not look at all like the picture MudHippy provided (MudHippy's looks just like mine; the telling part is the "visor" on the top of the shroud that projects aft over the fan), 3) if you wander through http://www.toyotapartszone.com/ you will find different part numbers for the 22re shroud and the 3VZE shroud. (To make things more interesting, none of the toyotapartszone numbers matches the number used by PartsGeek).

My personal interest in all of this is the very attractive price PartsGeek has for the shroud. If it fits, I might order it. (and if it doesn't fit, I would be hard put to blame PartsGeek).

This is supposedly a stock 84-89 22RE No. 1 fan shroud for visual reference. Notice the the similarity to the 3VZE's, it's close to a mirror-image of it just without the whatcha-ma-callit at the top.

MudHippy's first picture is exactly what I got from PartsGeek, little visor part and all. It just doesn't have the bottom piece, but I can see the tabs where it would attach. 3 of the 4 screws lined up perfectly, the 4th nut was on the bottom of it's radiator tab instead of the top. It's a newer radiator, so that may be why. I just zip tied it. It holds firm and quieted things down A LOT.
