R150f Help

Hey guys, so the last couple days my transmission has pretty much taken a dump. Since I've had it, it has always made a little extra noise in 5th gear. I never thought much of it because it never affected driveability. Now every time i downshift out of that gear it will grind going into every gear except 4th. Now I'm pretty sure that 4th is 1:1 so hence the no grinding but what do you all think? Did i just fry my syncros some how?

Oh yeah truck is a 91 4runner with 98 3.4 swap

have u checked the fluid level? it sounds like its burnt up, but you may get some more life out of it by changing the fluid over to redline GL-5 mt 90. Also might want to check that your clutch hydraulics are working properly.

Ok, just checked the fluid it is full and the fluid looked ok and didnt smell burnt...
Clutch is working fine also. Starting to think about just finding a used one on CL or something(seen them for around $200) and using that while I "attempt" a rebuild on this one haha

Check to see if your clutch pedal bracket is cracked. Had similar issues with mine, it got worse and worse till I couldnt get into any gear... I welded up the bracket, and put a brace in there, and all was well again.

Yeah I saw your thread on this. (at least I think it was yours) and I checked mine it has quite a bit of play but is not cracked or broken and still fully functional. I'm almost positive the issue is in the inner workings of the transmission and not the clutch. I can rev the engine in neutral and while the rpm's are up I can put the clutch in and it will go into any gear... Still a little frustrated because I would think that if the syncros went out it would still not like to go into gear normally??

R150f transmission

Sounds like the syncros are worn. It all depends on how long you've been having these problems. If you do most of your own work the transmission is not that big of a job. The battle is just getting it out. I know most people will not do it themselves but you'll save yourself a ton of money.

ANY play means its not right. It should be solid with NO movement at all. If it moves even a 1/4", it wont be able to fully disengage the clutch....
It was really hard to see the crack in mine at first, but it got worse, and easier to find.
