i'm about 99% sure my ecu is going bad... i've got a 92 22re 4x4 with 5spd. i found a pretty good deal on an ecu that came out of a 91 22re 2wd with a 5spd. will is work in my truck?

i don't see why it wouldn't, but i'd like to know for sure before i buy it.

may or may not work. If the part numbers on them match, then it will. If the connectors match, they probably will work but there are differences between different application ecu's, and sometimes different ecu's within the same year.

call a dealership..Im not sure but i have called before about the ecu on my 88 and they told me which one i needed. Of course i bought it on ebay for about one sixteenth of the price

the listing says it'll work for a 91-92 22re.... i'm more concerned about a 2wd ecu working on a 4x4.

i could see there being problems if it were for an auto tranny, but the truck the ecu came from is 5spd, like my truck.

the picture of the ecu looks just like mine.

what could be different in the ecus for a 2wd and a 4x4?

You've caught me at a bad place- I don't have my diagrams and such with me since I'm out of town so can't nail down any particular differences, but I seem to recall seeing some wiring specific to the 4wd trucks that interfaces with the ecu, but don't quote me. Maybe 4Crawler, DeathCougar or WaskillyWabbit will chime in.

tomorrow i'll call up the dealership and see what they say. and then i'll try to compare my part number with the one on ebay

Definitely a difference between 2wd & 4wd. There's a connection to the 4wd indicator switch in the transfer, I think to the 4wd indicator light in the cluster, and I think there's also a transfer oil temp sensor connection. ADD also.

Also differences between A/T & M/T, six vs four cyl (of course), Fed/Canada vs Cali, truck vs 4runner, and between different years (some years the same). Matching part numbers is the way to go. http://www.car-part.com a good resource.

What makes you think the ecu is bad? It does sometimes happen, but it's rare.

Try it! I got the ecu from a 93 runner v6 auto and cali emissions, to work on my 91 p/u 5spd, no cali emissions. I do know that the 5spd ecu will NOT work on a auto, and I have no idea about 2wd working for 4x4... my guess would be prolly not... but ya never know.. I didnt expect the 93 ecu to work on my p/u either... not without throwing codes anyway... but it does.

i've got a code 13 AGAIN, even after replacing the distributor, and i've got a code 43....

both point towards ecu.


EDIT: oh yeah, i call the dealership today. what a waste of time. i called the main building, asked for parts. i get put through to service. so i ask for parts, that guy put me to car parts. finally i got put through to truck parts.... i tell the guy what's going on, and ask him my question. "hmm... dunno? what's your vin?" so i give him the vin.... he put me on hold for about 5 minutes, comes back and asks for the vin of the other vehicle. i don't know it, so he said he can't help me.

now how hard is it to look up the part number on an ecu for the same year, same everything, only ones 4x4 and the other isn't. he was just too damn lazy.
