Question about small lift to run 33x12.5. BJ spacers + 1" body lift
Disclaimer: I am a newb so bear with me please.
Anyways, Hi, and i am new to toyota trucks as well as 4wd. I recently Sold my car and picked up a 91 4runner, v6 auto, 4.56 gears, 31x10.5x15 tires. I am looking to do some minor modifications to make weekend wheeling a little more enjoyable. I would like some advise on these questions and ideas.
Here is what i have planned to do:
Rear locker. Aussie or Lockright (because i got stuck in some light snow last week )
33x12.5x15 BFG M/T (already have them)
small lift to allow fitting those tires
Possibly 4.88's
i have searched regarding my questions about the lift but havent found much to support it yet. My question is what is the best way to go about fitting those tires??
I am thinking about a 1" body lift from 4crawler.com as well as the BJ spacers and Rear coil spacer kit from Sdori.com
I beleive this will give me the clearence to run those tires without going to high.
Any opinions on this setup? is it as easy as buying those parts and installing or do other modifications need to be done for it to work properly? IE: longer shocks to accompany the lift?
I would appreciate any advise and while you speak I am still searching in hopes to answer my own questions

Aussie doesn't make a rear locker for our V6 4runners. Lockright would be the way to go. And to fit those tires, I'd go with the 2" BL from 4crawlers site. I, too will be doing the same lift set up as you have planned. Check this thread,https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...-guide-155339/ it'll answer most, if not all your questions.....
BTW, welcome to Yotatech.

I put the 2 inch toytec BJ spacer and AAL kit on my truck, and I need longer shocks now. I bought new rear ones, but the front ones had to be shimmed untill i can afford front shocks

I'd run a 2" BL and you might have to do a little bit of 'clearancing' with the BFH on the pinch weld.
I still get minor rubbing under full compression/full lock. But my wheel stick out ALOT.
Defantly get a lockright, but instead of 4.88 gears, go with 5.29's. Or even 5.71. Your auto will love you for it!

You are going to want 5.29's. This ratio will bring you close to stock acceleration - and be easier on the auto. If you want a bit more low end grunt then 5.71. You'll need an 8" wide rim to fit the 12.5's properly - also need the proper back spacing. other than that I think you are on the right track if you MUST fit 33x12.5's - just remember 33x10.5 fit with no lift, only punding the pinch weld...
You could step up the body lift to 2", and then in the future do a 2" drivetrain lift and a low pro crossmember to the the anchor of a transfercase up... Just an idea!
And an aux tranny cooler never hurt! Can't be too safe!
Hope this helps!

Thanks for all the advise. I read through the Beginners guide to lifts sticky on this page and it was a big help
I will be going with a 1" body lift from 4crawler,
15x8 wheels to fit my 33s
1.5" BJ spacers
and i haven't decided between an OME 2" lift kit or just going for LC 80 series rear springs with upgraded shocks
I guess it depends on what find for the best price
Any ideas where to buy the OME kit for a good price? remember it needs to be shipped to Canada

Sounds like you've done your research and for that I'm happy, nice name by the way....... just read a Zombie book *shudder*.
The only two things I can recommend that you haven't mentioned yet are a good transmission cooler and deeper gears. Your tranny will like the 5.29's better than 4.88's with a 33. Others have mentioned these already so I'm just adding in my couple of pennies.
Ball Joint spacers are a great little mod and easy to intall just rememeber to get an alignment done after the install. You will need longer shocks front and rear. I didn't do shocks since I bought new ones days before doing my lift and it cost me a little droop but I can live with it for now.
As for the back I can't really help you since both of my rigs have leaf springs. I would however think that a new coil with the appropriate lift would be a good idea since I don't know if anyone makes a "lift" bucket for coil springs. I could be wrong though.
The BL is a no brainer. I'd recommend going with a 2" so you can also raise the fuel tank up a little for more ground clearance (if your 91 tank looks like my 89 then we both know that that thing is a rock anchor). Just be aware that you may have to do some adjusting on the shifters/brake lines/radiator shroud/e-brake cable/steering with a body lift. I think 2" is about the max you can go without adjustments but I haven't done one yet so you'll have to do some more research.
Welcome to the addiction!!!!!!

IMHO id keep the gearing at 5.29 or bellow, with ratios as low as 5.29 and 5.71 the difficulty of setting up the gears increases greatly and your pinion becomes so small that the odds of deflecting skyrocket.

i am running a 92 4runner with bj spacers and cruiser coils.i did not need a body lift at all. i did buy one thinking it would be needed as well as drivetrain lift, but found out once lift was installed that it wouldnt be needed.i am running 33x12.5 mtr's with 3 3/4 backspacing.i had to trim the lower valance for rubbage on the front but other than that she is not touched.

i did use the OME shocks that were with the kit.they work great,i am also running a pro comp es 2000 steering stablizer.not even running swaybars and she drives fine.a track bar drop bracket might be a good investment
matt16 yes that is me.i am planning to do the spool and front locker still but i have been gathering parts for my sas and rear leaf swap. 44044's for the front, sky hanger kit,f-150s for the rear or 63's.
