Question about my cams

Hello All, Doing a HG job on the my 3VZE. Pulled the cams off and saw this. Is this caused by heat? The engine only has 35K on it and the only time it has overheated was when the HG blew. Also why is the knock sensor sh F'ing much?

Thanks for your help.

The cracked lope thingy is from improper removal. I have my old one thats sitting in the parts pile with the same problem. Happend when my sea2sky cams went in.

Get another cam. Or get a set... I would go with an aftermarket if you're at this point.

Thanks for the reply Jay, But i was really carefull about removing the cams. I just went outside to check the head to see if i could find the chuck that is missing and it's no where to be found. I'm suspecting maybe a bad remanufactured engine or the garage that replaced the engine two years ago got me used engine instead of a remaned engine. I noticed the problem with the cam lobe a year ago when i had to replace the valve cover gasket and that was around 25K on the engine, that's why i'm suspecting something fishy is going on. unless it happen some other way.

Also, Where can i find stock replacement cams? i did a couple google searches with no luck. Maybe i'll hit up recycler row in sacramento.

It might have been the guy who did the headgaskets on that truck. Mine was messed up by the dealer... It was cracked, not missing like yours..

Best bet for a set of cams is junk truck... OR get a set of aftermarket.

I cracked one of mine on two sides like that; it's still in the truck & runs fine. That's just the shroud that sprays oil out from the bearing area.

However, your bearing journals look pretty ROUGH....

I have another questions, I bought the head gasket kit from engblder (great Service by the way!) with new head bolts. The new bolts are 12mm 12 point, The head bolts that are on now, seem to be maybe a 14mm or 15mm 12 point. Should i be concerned about this?

I'm going to remove them tonight if all goes well.

Thanks
