on my 4runner 22R-E i have an ECU that has 3 sockets for clips, and the ECU says 22B on it i found another from a toyota pick-up with the 22R-E but it only has 2 sockets for clips (clips i mean where the wire harness clips into it) and on the pick-up ECU it says 22R-E. my question is is my ECU the wrong one for my 4runner, forgot to mention that i think the runner was flipped since it had a different front end since it was white and the back was red but the whole truck was painted blue, or are the pick-ups and runners that different. both have fuel injection, well basically both have the same exact engine by looking at it. i need to know so i dont buy another ECU and get screwed again.

your ecu is the right ecu for your truck.
if you need a new ecu, you need to get the same one you have.
otherwise, you'll have to change the wiring harness to suit the ecu you end up with.

so in other words i need another ECU with 22B on it and nothing else?
figures since all the Runners in mexico ARE NOT DEAD...they are still on the road or errr trails i should say. been in mexico in the same area for 16 years and have seen 6 runners and ill be damed i see the same damn runners to this day (gotta love the runners and ya gotta hate em ) like the old commercial way back when about timex..takes a licken and keeps on ticken.

oh well i will have to keep my eye out for a smashed runner in the junk yards and just hope...thank you for the fast reply man.

no...
your ecu has a part number stamped on it. you need an ecu with the same number stamped into it. the part number is usually a 5(or 6) digit number followed by a dash then another 5(or 6) digit number.

oh great....do you know anyway of finding out what my runner had for numbers other than looking on the ECU??? from all the wear and tear from the previous crash and my big head thinking i can make a rock crawler the numbers seam to have rubbed off. it looks like 89***-35*7* there is also a few numbers below those numbers has ND in front and the numbers are 175600-0122 12v at least i think its a V. so any way of figuring out what the numbers are?

The 2 connector ECU sounds more like an early model 22R-E, which was only available in the 82-84 Celica GT and GT-S. Sounds like someone swapped the motor in the truck.

oddly enough, a wrecking yard I ventured into a few months ago had an ECU from a 91 truck... and it only had 2 connectors- one fairly small connector and the other quite broad.
To make matters more confusing, my ECU, from my 88 22re is stamped 22r, as was the 91.

So back to the suggestion I mentioned... match part numbers... is the only one I can give... or maybe contact Toyota with your VIN.
