Push button ignitions

Ok what is with push button ignitions for Toyota’s? I hear they are pretty common, and i am wondering if my runner is a good candidate as it sometimes randomly does not start, and starter contacts are good. Jumping it makes it start right up, but that battery is new?

I am confused - you have one or want one? changing from a switch to a button will not resolve your starting issues. I would get the battery tested ot the leads for corrosion. How do you know the contcts are good? When were they replaced? When they wear they require more amperage to start & therfore in the winter or weak battery is prime candidates for showing the contacts issue.

The wire coming from the ignition switch (small one with the connector) on my 90 pickup was not putting 12v to the starter. This made it not start. I forget the exact voltage it was giving me, but if I remember right it was 8-10 volts or around there. I didn't feel like diging into the ignition wiring so I ran a push button there. Just one of the off the shelf kind that was at the parts store. It's worked flawlessly for over 2 years now.

If you do this make sure to have an inline fuse.

edit: Still put the key in start when you hit the button so the cold start injector and all that still works.
