Problem starting?

I have a question. dOES anyone know if you tighten down the valves just a little over specs not to tight will it cause the truck not to turn on? its justt turning over but not turning on and then after a while it turns on but then dies instantly?? anyone have any ideas?

A little bit as in the next feeler gauge up/down won't cause it to not run.
The engine type and what you have done to it will help people give you better answers.

oh its a 1986 toyota pickup 22re fuel injected 4wd. or could it be that i might of put in the distributor a little bit wrong? cause like it turns over but it doesnt fire up

You may have installed the distributed 180deg out.
Basically the engine may have been on the wrong stroke at tdc when you installed it.

oh ok.. so whati do now is what? put the crank at tdc and make sure the distributor is on #4 and pull it out and put it back on #1? which is 11 o clock?

I don't remember exactly, I just did it by mistake when I rebuilt my engine.
You could try the tdc stroke that has you distributor 180deg out then remove it, turn it 180deg and reinstall. If it is already installed correctly and the problem is something else then it won't start even if the other problem is fixed.

In my sig there is a link to factory service manuals. It should tell you what stroke it should be on and how to install it.
