getting quotes on a windshield replacement, and i previously replaced with PPG glass that came stock but that one is pitted from a sandstorm.
so.. ...safelite or ppg glass? why?

i havent heard anyone mention them. heard, LOS, PPG, safelite, and a few other oem "equivelants". i dunno....i think based on the quotes i hunted down, $335 for two windshields PPG glass seems to be the best so far. (the other is for an old benzo)

I would recommend staying away from Safelite. At least 10 people that I know that has used them have had problems with their glass. As far as I know, they make their own glass, and the quality is not very good. It tends to fit well but it also doesn't last long. After a short time, it gets pits, chips and cracks from little rocks.
Personally, I've only had to have glass replaced one time - a front windshield. After doing some research, PPG seemed to be about the best rated glass thats widely available. After 5 years and 40,000 miles its still holding up well.
PPG also makes OEM glass and other things (paint, chemicals, even Transitions contact lenses) and their quality seems to be good overall.
I'd suggest PPG.

Has anyone tried windshield polish? The glass in my MR2 has a haze on the surface from dust being blasted into it at highway speeds. It's an expensive piece of glass, so I'd like to polish it if it actually works.

Incidentally, I have the Pinkerton glass in my truck. It's a nice piece of glass and not too expensive and it's from a reputable glass company. I ordered it online and picked it up at a local distributor.

yea, i found a company thats gonna hook me up $350 for my toyota and the benzo, PPG glass at my home. i think its a good deal.

oh yea, we get summer a cold summer here in socal!!! but everynow and then we get 'extreme' weather. mild for the rest of the world, but the frikkn panzies out here get all flustered with a lightning strike and 1/4" of rain!

PPG has several glass plants throughout the country. But specifically what glass (OEM, aftermarket, flat, etc.) comes from what plant, I have no idea.

I'm about to try some windshield polish on my 95 Taco in about an hour. The kit was $50. A new windshield is ~$250 so it seems worth a try. I'll let you know how it turns out.

My tip for polishing your windshield is don't do it. I'm beat. That is a lot of work for little payoff. The polishing kit was $50. I wish I'd bought a new windshield. I haven't driven at night in the rain yet so it may be worth it but right now it doesn't seem so. Maybe for those that do a lot of buffing for other reasons might find it easier. There was a learning curve for me since I've never used a rotor buffer. I recommend removing windshield wiper arms and antenna before starting. Get ready to clean up a hell of a mess too. Also, don't be timid. I was really careful at first from warnings about it getting too hot or too dry or pressing too hard. Glass is !@#$%^& hard. It will take a lot to remove much material. Good luck to all that try.

PPG (Pittsburg Paint and Glass) Good stuff.

LOF (Libby Owen Ford) Good stuff.

Safelite garbage.....my opinion. Our old insurance company used to use them. My wife's 86 4Runner got 11 Safelite windshilds in one year. Once a block away from the new instal.

Now have a friend that owns a glass company. He only uses factory if available and highly recommends PPG and LOF.
