Power Steering VSV questions.

Hey folks, been lurking here for a bit, but this is my first post.

I have a 1986 Pickup, 22R. (Carbeurated, not the RE).

I've recently rebuilt the engine, top to bottom. Shortblock from engnbldr, rebuilt top end, new valves, crawler cam, port matching on intake & exhaust, mild port & polish job, Weber 32/36 carb, etc. Lots of fun stuff.

One thing I did as well was to add power steering to this truck. This was done with a new power steering gearbox, and a used power steering pump and idler from eBay.

It is working well, but I don't have the VSV on the power steering pump hooked up to anything. Looking through the posts here and the diagrams in my manual, I see that on the EFI models, the two hoses ran to the throttle body. Specifically, it passes vacuum from the throttle body to the idle when the power steering pump has high pressure. Essentially it increases idle when the power steering is at full turn to not bog down the engine.

My question (yes there is a question here after all that rambling) is thus:
Since I don't have an EFI, is there anywhere I can route the vacuum lines?

Finding somewhere to draw vacuum on one line is easy, but I don't know of any way to increase the idle via a vacuum line after it leaves the VSV. Is there any way to do this on a 22R?

As it is right now I just have the VSV unconnected to anything. It provides a cleaner appearance of course, but it would be nicer to have a way to bump the idle under power steering load. I don't think it's too critical and if I can't find a way to do this, I'll just deal with a bit of engine bog-down under full power steering load, but if it is possible, it'd be nice to do.

Thanks in advance,

Not really a critical thing to have. I think the A/C models have something similar with some sort of vacuum actuated idle up gadget for the carb (probably pushes the throttle linkage open a little bit).

I've not had an idle up valve on my 22RE for many years and I don't really find I need one. Engine does not bog down, per se, but every once in a while I do find I need to tap the throttle a little to bump up the RPMs for a little more steering boost.

Cool, thanks for the fast response. It's pretty much what I suspected, but it's nice to have confirmation from someone that's been running that way.
