I have a leak in what I believe to be a weird place. I am learning as I go along, so I don't know the correct terminology quite yet. I used the search function, but I did not find what I was looking for. I have attached a link that hopefully will work.

appears to be the output shaft seal on the steering gear box





you can get seal kits and rebuild the gearbox yourself; there's threads here on the forums about rebuilds

personally, I had the same issue, and I just grabbed a gearbox out of a junk yard that had about 100k on it, cleaned and painted it, and bolted it on the truck and never looked back

It would be helpful to disclose your vehicle its year. I just had to replace a power steering gearbox and shortly thereafter the power steering pump on my 95 runner. That looks like a gearbox lower seal gonebad to me, but if you identify more details this group should be able to tell you what you're dealing with.

Find your model year on this FSM (Factory Service Manual) page - http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/index.html - and look up the PS pump. It will help you identify the parts and possibly where the leak is. Most likely the pump will need to be rebuilt. I am swapping out Troy's PS Pump on his 93 (3.0) runner tomorrow. A PITA on the 3.0 since the engine bay is so darned tight!

But yeah, my PS system leaks on both ends like a damn sieve, so I'll be rebuilding the pump and gear in the semi-near future. I'll see if I can't document it and post a bit of a walkthrough or something.

You might consider giving Castrol High Mileage ATF a try - it might buy you some time. MaxLife oil completely stopped the leaking from my front main seal - not sure if the Castrol product would have the same effect on your PS gearbox but wouldn't hurt to try. It meets the Dexron II and III specs:

Since my whole system is/was completely shot, I gave Lucas PS stop-leak a try. For a short while, it slowed the leak. But after a few months, it was just no match for the age of my seals. The good news is Lucas has a money back guarantee on this stuff, so I'll send the UPC's and see about getting my $18 back.
I think time has just caught up with the 20 year old seals. The o-ring on the underside of my distributor was like glass when I pulled that a week or two ago. It literally shattered off.
If you don't have any leaks from the upper seals, just that bottom part, then you can get away with the "partial seal kit" from Toyota. You're looking at about $45 for the kit, which includes all the seals that stack above where the leak in your picture is. The "complete" kit includes the 3-4 additional seals for the steering wheel shaft as well. The bad news though, a mysterious part included in that (described only as "ring") somehow bumps the cost to about $150 for the "complete" kit.

rockauto should have seals for much less. The issue may be making sure you get the right kit, since on my 89 it took three tries to get the right reman gearbox.

Maybe try draining and refilling with ATF. Could be as simple as that. Stopped the leak on the pump on my Landcruiser.
