I am wondering that myself. I have stock tires and it not so bad once you learn how so see what is in front of you that way. I like the tight feel of the manual going up the highway. If you have the manual than the gas piston on the relay rod makes a huge differerence. I drove like that for two years. I did not even realize it was under there.
It it will rip the wheel out of your hands.

is the power steering assembly the same on an 89 as an 86?
since i have access to a rolled 89, i might try and get the power steering off it, would it work or do i have to get the assembly from an 86-88, if its the same on the 89 i could get it for like $20, or $125 at a junkyard.

mine had power steering but wasent hooked up, i didint have some of the parts needed, theirs an idler pulley and bracket assembly for this as well..in this pic its missing but it goes directly to the left of the pump and connects to the head,
also on a side note, i had to shim my clutch fan to keep it from hitting the idler pulley bracket??? dunno if anyone els has had to do this, but yes NIGHT AND DAY difference for offroading, especially with 35"s

I've yet to get one for my rig. It's never been a problem... or has it i dunno ha. My Steering box is leaking like a civ now but it's got over 300k on it. Just to lazy to put my spare box in. But will admit im getting tired of the oily mess it's making.
