Power Steering Hose Alternative.

My power steering line has been swelling and leaking fluid. Rather than purchase a hose for $50 + could I go to one of the hydraulic shops around and have them re-crimp a new piece of hose. Does this seem like a good alternative or does this make me sound too cheap?

If you do that make sure the clocking is correct on the fittings. Those hoses don't twist at all.

Thanks for the heads up. The hose that is swelling goes from the P/s pump to I believe is the abs actuator beneath it.

Yeah that's the way my old 3.0 PS hose was.

take it with you and tell them to copy it. They could always make it a little longer if you need some flexibility.

The folks at the shop should be able to recommend the right type of hose for my application, correct? It would probably be a good idea to add some dye to my power steering (atf) and black light it to see if it leaks anywhere else. What do yall think

ATF already has dye: it's red. I wouldn't add anything to the fluid.

And yes, the hydraulic shop will know what hose to use... and will probably recommend a hose that far exceeds what you need.

An OEM high pressure side ps hose is just a tad more than $50 at the dealer...most start at about $300 and get stupid high from there.

Get one from a junkyard as they are all the same 86-95 on all the Toyota 4x4s.

Low pressure side is just local auto parts hose and some hose clamps.
