Power Loss

Hi Guys, You have helped me sooo much in the past I had to run this one by you. I have an 86 pickup with a 22re engine with a 129k miles on it. And an automatic transmission. I push the overdrive button in to get on the highway and the light does not come on I'm figuring it's burned out. But once I hit about 50mph I have no power and the engine is revving really high likes it's not trying to shift. It also does the same thing in town with about 100 lbs of weight in the bed. Any ideas?

I leave the OD on our 91 on all the time except when something heavy is in the bed. It doesn't seem to affect shift points or acceleration.

Have you checked the transmission fluid level? Have you checked all your fuses?

I changed the filter and fluids. I bought this truck with a blown HD and put it back together. Abecedarian thanks for the advice I appreciate it alot!! All the fuses check out good. If you have any other ideas that would be great because at this point I'm lost, I would hate to put another tranny in it just to find out it's something as crazy as a vacuum hose or a fuse.

you changed the filter and fluids. did you make sure it's all full?
did it work before you changed the fluids?

something else to check is the OD switch. if it isn't working, things don't go right.

Also, it could be one of the solenoids in the transmission itself.

there are field service manuals you can download. just look here: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...umbers-102344/ and you'll find links to download the manual. It may not explicitly cover your year, but there may be information in there to help.
