okay,i put a new head and new injectors on my 86 non-turbo efi 4runner.it seems as though i am running on three cyl's.when i pull off the 2nd cyl spark plug wire,there is no change in idle,but i am getting spark against the head so i am sure its firing.i insanely cleaned out the entire throttle body and intake,so thats a good'n.but when trying to listen with a long screwdriver on all the injectors,they appear to be clicking,although its kinda hard to tell engine tapping and injector tapping on the 2nd injector.at this point,i am assuming its the connector/pigtail.is there another way to test the current,besides a noid light(i cannot find one)?sorry i know this has been run to the ground as far as the old connectors go,just not finding what im looking for as far as other tests/results.thanks

okay,another question then.i went ahead and ordered the new pigtail,so will work that out over the weekend.but my next question is,if the injector is not firing on the 2nd cylinder,will the engine/valvetrain be more tappy sounding due to lack of back pressure from no combustion there?it is a new head and valves,and the valves were adjusted then checked twice after to be sure,that is when i realised it was not getting power at the #2 injector.i know these are tappy engines,but this is a wee bit too much.any thoughts greatly appreciated.

oh,and yes i backed off on the valve cover,as to not hit the followers to make the additional tapping.

Try moving the #2 injector to the #1 hole, if it works there then its wiring. If it doesnt work there then the injector has failed or is plugged.

It is possible there is a wire fracture in the harness maybe caused just by the movement of putting new injectors in. There are also 3 splices in the harness for the injectors also, 1 ground and 2 pairs together. These have been know to corrode and also break. I inspected and soldered mine last weekend but they were 100% fine to begin with.

your injector wire all the way pushed on? mine wasnt lol. talk about a head scratcher when your brand new motor randomly starts missing! took 45 mintues to figure it out, and 3 seconds to fix lol

d@mn.i pulled the suspect injector connector off,and the idle dropped,telling me its firing.but when i pull the spark plug cable off of the same cyl,it does not drop off,yet makes a spark to the head,telling me something is going on with spark after the plug.could it be just a weak spark?perhaps need a new coil for stronger spark?im a wee stumped on this one.

The spark plug could have a break inside the isulator. Plugs are cheap, try throughing a new NGK in there.

I had the same issue. Have you pulled your plug on that cylinder AFTER it has run for a little bit? Was it wet? Mine was, because I had injectors that were stuck open and causing the specific cylinders to flood.

i am on the third plug.they stay clean.just put on new wires,with no change,as suggested by a mechanic buddy,thinking it was just a weak spark.i am however hearing an odd liquid sound from the dash area,when i drive around,and let off the throttle.a little like liquid pressurising and squeezing through something.if it was a fuel pressure reg,i dont think that it would cause a problem with a single cyl'r,would it?

off topic,but,fierohink,do you run at summit?also,how much current should be passing through the injector connector(harness)?when i pulled the connector this morning with the truck running,both females read just over 13v.

bloody hell,i had the valves mal-adjusted.i adjusted the same as a dual cam,and totally overlooked the correct procedure in the manual,jeez,lesson learned.the number 2 cyl intake was tighter than heck.anyways,running good on all 4,now just having cold start issues now,gotta feather the gas for 30 seconds or so to keep it from stalling during initial startup.oh well,i still love old yotas.cheers
