*Please help...again* Head pulled * Pics* please look at #4 valve & piston...

Hey everyone -

Here are a few pictures of what I am running into. This is the left head #4 valves and piston. Looks like I'll be replacing this valve. Should I have a VJ on all because of this one? What might cause this? Bad injector? Thetop edge of the valve your seeing is pitted around the edges.

Next, can I just clean the top of the piston? Other than soot it doesn't look bad.

Last but not least, HG WAS blown on #6 as picture shows. Cylinder had quite a bit of anti-freeze but valves and piston looked good.

Appreciate the help and ideas.

Respectfully,

DJ

Sending the head to a machine shop is pretty much a must, to do a HG replacement the right way.
Let them check it to make sure it's not warped, not cracked and surface it up for you.
They can also advise on the valves.

Hey Ernie...Take a peek...

RUBE?? Man, I haven't used that word since the pigs ate my little brother while working the ring toss at the carnival.

I see we have the same thought processes, except I usually don't state the obvious and am not RUDE.

Unfortunately, like a great many persons, I don't trust machine shops or mechanics. That is why we "Rubes" ask questions here. To gain as much input, ideas and inspiration as possible from others empathetic with our situations. Because I don't share your stunning eloquence or condensation, I'll have to go on being analytical and, according to your catagorization, asking obvious, rube-esk, non-name-calling questions.

My carney father used to say, If you have to resort to name calling, it's due to your intelligence quotient being below par or your daddy's your brother.

Respectfully,

DJ the 149 IQ Rube

I generally don't trust mechanics either, until they've proven that they know what they're doing on a particular vehicle.

Machinists.. well, I have to trust them more. You'll have to trust one to determine what the next step is with your head.

One guy I'd trust with both is engnbldr - might send him that head photo and see what he thinks... It's obviously a burnt valve, but outside of timing issues and excessive EGTs, I don't know what would cause that. Timing issues don't makes sense for a single cylinder issue.

you can clean your valves and grind , but if the valves are cheap , i suggest you change all your intake and exhaust valve , and you need to have a machinist check your cylinder head , it might have warped , if it did , the machinist have to level your cylinder head , this i assume that you didn't overheat your engine , if you did overheat , it's another story. have your injector check , change your spark plug , adjust your timing, about your piston i think you can clean it , this is my suggestion and i am not an expert , just ask for more opinion.
