Plastic Tube inside 22re Oil Pan... What is it?!?!
I just got my first toyota- a 1994 toyota pickup, 4wd, manual. I replaced the timing chain, the guides, the cover, oil pump and water pump. I was doing some highway driving with a decent load, and started to hear some noise that was quite typical of lower bearing play.
Eventually something that seemed catastrophic happened, - The engine died, I coasted to a hault, it was the middle of the night, so I got a tow, the remaining distance.
I pulled the motor, and found parts of a timing chain guide in the pan, and the bearing on the second cylinder nearly worn away. The other bearings are in reasonable shape by comparison.
When I pulled the timing cover I realized that I made a stupid mistake when I first did the cover- I left the old timing chain guide that was broken prior to my purchase in the oil pan and used the truck quite a bit.
Now for the part I dont understand. In my oil pan, there is a plastic tube, about 1/4 inch diameter that runs from the back to the front along the passenger side of the pan. The tube was hard and brittle and seemed to be broken and both the front and back.
What is this tube? Everyone I have asked so far is perplexed by its existance.
