Piston slap after top end + chain job 22re
I just did the chain job and had the head gone through on this 92 22re 160k mi, and now ive found what I think is piston slap in # 2 cylinder. Im calling it piston slap because the only way I can get rid of it for 20 seconds is after a few squirts of oil in #2 cylinder. Every time it goes completely away for a short while. I tried all the other cylinders also with no result. I tried every other test for slap/knock/tick..pulled each wire one by one.
The compression is good on all cylinders dry, toyota head gasket. And an engnbuider timimg chain kit.
I did not remove the carbon buildup at the top of the cylinders during the job, and some pieces of scraped gasket fell in. I used a shop vac to clean out the cylinder and piston gap. Didnt have this slap or sound prior to the job.
I dont know, piston slap? what would eventually happen if its driven like this long term cause pulling the engine wont be an option for awhile, maybe a year.
Also ive searched all over the PAIR valve system and all joints for any exhaust for leaks, tried moving the V cover and bolts more and less. all the little things checked. Besides leakdown test

Well piston slap is definitely not good.
I wouldn't run the engine any longer.
They may have taken too much off of the head when they milled it.
Or they decked the block too far..

The head surface was checked at the machine shop and it was straight so I just left it alone since I wasnt having the block done. I thought it was valves for a week but they sound real good when you suppress the sound im talking about.

I would do a leak down test on that cylinder and see if your head gasket/valves are leaking. You can get ping/tick if that cylinder is sucking air. I can't see how removing the head would have anything to do with piston to cylinder clearance (piston slap).
The piston it the picture does not look bad but the cylinders have lots of honing marks on them. Was this engine rebuilt not long ago?

I got it with 95k, the PO never told me about any work done. This had the first chain job cause the guides were blown apart and the timing cover almost worn through.
One intake and 3 exhaust valves got replaced that were bent. The others were sealing well the machine shop said. I poured water in all the intake and exhaust ports to check for leakage and they all held. One had a few beads of water emerging after a 30 seconds that never dripped. It still has good compression about 150 all across. Ive adjusted the valves everywhere from .006 to .008 intake and .011 to .012 ex.
Maybe one valve is just slightly bent enough to seal but cause a problem. I need a leakdown tester im asking everyone I know.
