Pics of Yakima rack/Tire Carrier on my 1st gen
Here are some pics of the roof rack that I have. Hope you like it. Some q's
1. Anyone know the load rating for the roof on 1st gens?
2. Currently i have it installed the front rack on the roof and on the rear on the cab. The cab being fiberglass, it's prolly not a good idea. I will install it on the roof only beofre I actually drive, unless you think it's ok to install it on the cab.

The front mount are fine (in the gutter around the window), but I would not mount the rears the way you have done it. The gutters on the topper are just molded fiberglass, and can't handle nearly the amount of load that the fronts can. Yakima makes a angled plate for instances like this, as does THULE and a number out other suppliers. I'll try to get a pic of mine, as my setup and placement is similar to yours. Might want to check out your local hardware or auto store, as aluminum raingutter sections (longer of course) are sometimes available. The idea is you are bolting on a section of artificial raingutter, and it helps to spread or support the strain/load out better than the molded-in fiberglass gutters. Looks good otherwise, I'll work on the pics...
edit: the Yakima product is called the Widebody.

Yakima 1A Raingutter towers with Widebody mounts (artificial rain gutters.) I mounted them pretty far back on the topper. The forward towers (clipped onto the raingutters around the front doors) are about in the middle of the window, and the bike trays are just long enough to span this distance. I have a lot of room to play with though, just thought I would prefer as far back as possible.) If I were to do it again, I would either mount the widebody lower by 2"-3", or I would invest in the spacers yakima sells to even out height discrepencies (forward towers clear the roof by 2", and rears by about 5") Oops...
Also, looking carefully, you'll notice a slightly ragged edge around the Widebody mount. It is a single layer of bicycle innertube, sliced open and cut to fit the footprint of the mount. Having drilled the holes into the canopy, I didn't want water to leak in. Similarly, silicone sealant could be used to provide a watertight seal. I need it dry inside. I live in Washington. Just my 2 cents.
Hope this helped!

Only wear they would leave would be some paint scrapes, if that. Haven't ever noticed too much on my truck, but I've only had it off once since I put it all on.
Without any mods? Hmm. The widebody does require the drilling and mounting, but that is pretty much the bare minimum for a stronger gutter option. I'm not familiar with it, but I feel like I've seen a slimmer/lower profile version of the widebody out there, but it would still require drilling/bolting.
I imagine the molded-in factory gutter on the shell will be fine, but the weight of the wheel (plus anything else you have loaded) over time will weaken the gutter where you have the tower mounted, and if you are wheeling, the strain will be magnified. My suggestion would be mount the reinforcement, paint to match if it's a concern, and know that you won't break anything.
