Painted the Yota last week.
Hey all,
Somewhat new to this forum. I purchased this truck back in july and have done some general maintenance on it (i.e. 02 sensor, cap, patched a few exhaust leaks oil change yadda yadda ya..) The previous owner rebuilt the 22re and forgot to bolt down the engine ground, so 2 months after driving her the ecu fried. After that expensive repair i decided i wanted to give the yota a face lift. This is a before and after.
The morning after i got the truck. The tundra i used to drive is on the right, which has been retired to towing the boat only now.
This is the day i got her back from the shop, took them 3 weeks to get a new ecu and a couple other things.
The bed was rusting and had no protection, so i sanded everything down and put some Herculiner on it. It turned out great, sorry i dont have an after pick. But this is the bed halfway sanded down.
Finally got a day off, after quite a few hours of sanding i finally got it primed.
And then two days later the project is complete, added the rasta flag on the tailgate for some spice lol

Have you seen the posts on here were guys use a roller and boat paint? you can get some really sweet results...for around the same price as spray cans.

Actually i think i ran across a thread last night, i was surprised to see the guy using a roller. The truck looked super clean though. Ill look into that next summer when i hope to have all the body work completed and ready for a serious paint job.

Im going to start body work on my 88 here pretty soon. I haven't decided about paint yet. I'd like to spray it with a hvlp gun and use automotive finish.
Base/clear but then I know Ill never offroad it.
I like those lights in your yard..the blue ones...and did I see a cement mixer?

The white looked clean and nice, but the black makes it look like a bit more of a wheeler. Now you need black wheels!

Use an HPLV gun. Even if you get a ton of orange peel, it will look good from twenty feet away. Personally, I don't like clearcoat because with single stage it is a simple as blocking out all the scratches and spraying a quick topcoat, bu that is oonly my opinion.
