ive got one sitting in my garage real hesitant to putting it on heard bad reveiws on them but have also heard great things the universal thing i hear is paint on them will just fade off

i can never get the thing to seal, ive had to put on 3 gaskets on because it keeps blowing them, and some of the holes werent even close to lining up with the block so i had to redrill the holes. oh and the paint fades on it because it isnt coated with heat resistant paint (it said so on a sticker that was stuck on the header)

I'm with matt92yota, i put one on my 3rz tacoma, and i blew out the collector gasket (the one between the header and the downpipe) 9 days after putting the header on, i replaced that one and it blew again 9 days later, then i put on one that i modified and that one survived for 9 to 10 weeks, then i replaced that one with a copper one, and a crapload of exhaust crack and joint sealer (3/4 of a tube), and that one made it for 11 months before my exhaust guy welded the flanges onto the pipe 7 weeks ago. i've also replaced 1 EGR pipe gasket, burned up the supplied catalytic conveter flange gasket, plus one factory toyota catalytic converter donut gasket. all in the period of 18 months. i hope you make a better choice than i did

go with a LCE or Doug Thorley. i have the DT and i love it

agreed; save your money and get a better one

1) the paper gasket they supply with them is CRAP. a stock manifold gasket with the metal heat shield removed was the only thing I could get to seal up
2) the black coating they put on them is a total joke. it burns and flakes off within the first 10 minutes after starting the truck up with it installed
3) you CANNOT get all of the holes for the PAIR valve tubing to line up properly no matter what you do. my solution in the end was just to remove the PAIR system completely...


I ran it for a few months before doing a complete engine overhaul, and when I did I sanded and repainted the entire thing with high temp paint because A) it looked like crap, and B) to prevent it from rusting since it was just bare metal. It looked nice after that, but it still had leaking issues...

Several people have had fitment issues with them as well. IIRC. Don't know if that's just Driver error, manufacture error or just plain shipped the wrong one.

I've had one for several months now. Only problem was with the crappy paint, burnt that off, removed header, cleaned and repainted with high temp paint. Looks good and like I said no fitment problems at all.

ceramic coatings should be on the inside of the header, not the outsied. keeping heat in the pipes will cause the pipes to degrade rapidly

other than that,
4-1 header will generally give more power at higher rpms
4-2-1 "tri-y" header will give more balanced power- good at low and higher rpms
stock exhaust is 4-2-1

Name one header manufacture that only ceramic coats the inside of their header.

If coating the outside of the header was as bad as you say then JETHOT wouldn't be making money and would probably be out of business. Of course I don't believe JETHOT is a true ceramic coating but......

I bought my pacesetter used from a dude on here. The only fitment issue I had was the middle PAIR bolts, which I just kept out. Havent had any problems. Put it on last August I think it was. Maybe 7-8K miles.

Can't name one but really, think about it... ceramic coats are for keeping heat where? ... inside the header, right? So why coat the outside instead? coatig the outside will cause the pipe to crystalise, eventually, just like wrapping it with heat wrap.

I read all this and thought long and hard before getting mine, but it was honestly all I could afford. My manifold was trashed and the downpipe even worse. My Pacesetter problem is that it hits the transmission where it meets the engine and is too close to one bolt. I just took it to Fesler Built and used an air chisel with hammer bit to pound in these two spots. In my opinion, if you are buying a cheap header like the Pacesetter (I read this info and knew what I was getting myself into) I say DO NOT buy the ceramic coating. I have it and have had to mess it up to make the header fit. Just get the painted version, make all the adjustments you need, and then paint it with uber high temp paint.

Iamsuperbleeder's looks great. Did you have clearance issues--by the pics, yours looks fine. I wonder if they sent me the wrong header?

Yeah I had similar fitment issues. The middle bolt for the the EGR pipe didn't line up but everything else did. My exhaust pipe rests on the transmission as well...not sure what to do about that. I just left it alone. The paper gaskets and paint were crap and I knew that going into it. I'm hoping to paint mine with high temp paint and I replaced the gasket to the head with an OEM one with the heat shield as well as the EGR gaskets...they are holding up fine. I'm going to have an exhaust shop weld on the B-pipe to the collector to avoid having to replace those gaskets and I'm going to get a weld in catalytic converter.

I've got one on my 22re and it's fine. Probably 4 years old and put about 50,000 miles on it. Who cares about the paint coming off?

im more concerned about it fitting and exhaust flow. tg's rock ripper has me but the price is out of question
