oxygen sensor bracket rewelding?

I have a 94 p/u with about 117,000 miles on it. I noticed it was getting loud and my check engine light came on (code 25....fuel/air mixture lean). When I went to look at the oxygen sensor, I noticed the bracket had come off the exhaust pipe. The pipe and sensor bracket have a coating of rust but seem otherwise solid. Has anyone had success with rewelding the bracket onto the pipe? I hate to try to put a new pipe in as everything is so rusted, it will end up being a whole new exhaust system. I'm just not sure if this rewelding will make it airtight so there is no exhaust leak around the bracket. Any other tips/tricks anyone has used in this situation? Thanks.
Dave
