I have read through 7 pages of power steering threads using the search function but haven't found an answer yet.

So here's my dilemma: I purchased a 1986 pickup with IFS, 22R engine, and added/non original power steering. The power steering is horribly over boosted. I mean I could honestly tap the wheel and it would begin to turn. I honestly enjoy the power steering but wish it was a little bit more difficult to turn.

Is there any sort of adjustment screw on these pumps? Can I run thicker fluid? I would just like to have a little more steering feel.

Throw some big tires on it and you'll be happy for powerful steering!

Not sure if the hydraulic flow is adjustable... If it's an aftermarket setup I'd contact the manufacturer.

I'm sure with it being aftermarket, you can use some sort of in-line restrictor on the pressure hose to limit the flow

but yeah I'd get with the manufacturer of the kit about that

But from what I understand the pump is actually a stock Toyota part.

maybe you're just not use to power steering?

the power steering on my 91 worked REALLY good despite being almost 20 years old; it was easier to turn then a lot of new trucks are!

I should have been a little more clear with my original question and my responses. The prior owner wanted to add the full SR5 package to truck to make it more livable. One of those additions was a factory Toyota power steering setup from the SR5.

The biggest problem, as I stated prior, is that the steering is way over boosted. The truck's power steering is so over-boosted that it actually makes it unstable to drive at freeway speeds. I've driven several cars and trucks with power steering and know what it should feel like. Those include: 93 Honda Civic Si, 93 BMW 325i, 98.5 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel, 06 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel, 03 Mustang Cobra (which is also way over-boosted when rubber bushings are replaced with aluminum on the rack, and the rubber rag joint removed from the steering shaft), and many others that I cannot remember.

ah okay; I thought maybe it had been driven for a long time without power steering, and now suddenly it was installed; that would make a huge noticeable difference to the driver, lol
