Oregon Engines Super Stock 22RE/Cam questions
Hey guys, I'm looking for any opinions I can get on this long block, particularly with regards to the cam.
Here are the specs they gave me...
IN&EX 425/440lift, 220/280dur, 224/234@50deg and 110 lobe separation.
After reading up on the Engnbldr cams, this profile seems a little odd to me. But I'm definitely no expert on cams. Anybody have any estimates of what the powerband for this thing would look like? The EB 261 sounds like pretty much just what I'm looking for, and I know that EB is the preferred way to go... I just REALLY like the lifetime warranty of the Oregon long blocks.

This question has been covered before.........but.........EB has 1 year unlimited mileage warranty for heads and cams, and has a very good reputation, which I cannot say for oregon engine builders. There's a thread on here about their engines failing...multiple accounts too.
Search around, here are some good threads to get you going

If you are in Cali, check out Putney's machine. I have been hearing good things about them, and by cruising around their site, looks like they know what they are doing. The other place I haven't heard anything bad about yet is sunwest engines outside of Spokane, WA.
I was with you, the unlimited mileage warranty sounds good, but PirateMcGee on here has had problems with them taking forever to fix his motor, and I believe it crapped out at 10k miles!!!

x2 on putney's custom machine www.22reperformance.com
They are very knowledgeable and friendly! Funny, every failure I have read from Oregon Engine Builders has happened within the first 10k

Yeah, I was originally thinking about going with one, but shipping would kill me IF anything did happen to go wrong, not to mention just to ship in my core and have the new long block shipped to me.
I was also thinking about getting their PTE-1 Head, but for $750, I think I'm gonna go with EB's performance head with os valves for $450. I wonder how the 2 heads compare on the dyno...hmmmm
My local machine shop offers a 3 year/30,000 mile warranty. I priced everything out, ballpark figure, to be around $1500 with EB's performance head, and master rebuild kit. I'm skeptical about his timing covers and oil pumps from flyingbrass's rebuild discoveries, so I think I'm going OEM all the way on timing cover, oil pump, water pump, gaskets, etc
22RE rebuild thread- coming soon! I'm more than half way there $$ wise!
But back to the topic, if you want great info on cams, don't be afraid to call Ted @ engnbldr or jim and jerry @ 22reperformance, they'll help you out!

Whoops, forgot to change that. I'm up in Utah now.
But yeah, I did a bunch of searching around and read everything I found. There were a couple people that said they've heard mixed reviews, but I didn't find any negative first-hand accounts. Oh well, I'm not going to take any risks on a new motor...
I was hoping to make this a fairly quick swap since it's my DD, and that's why Oregon was so appealing, especially with the warranty. But I guess I'll start looking at short blocks to go with an EB head. Too bad EB doesn't do long blocks anymore...

Check out the sunwest engines if you want a quick swap. Haven't heard anything bad. Might be a little easier on the shipping for you as well. Who knows.

I've read some threads on here where people have had good things to say about Oregon Engine Rebuilders. The most recent was a guy talking about how his son's had 30K miles on it and it was fine. They are in close proximity to Engnbldr and they use the same parts (Rock). If their engines are failing as soon as 10K miles maybe it is the fault of the installer and/or an improper break-in period.
They seem to be reputable to me and if I HAD to buy a rebuilt engine their superstock 22RE looks to be a good affordable option.
Sunwest has been around for a long time and they are pretty good too I believe.
