Optima YT and 120a GRI alt installed today... problem

so today i installed my new 120a alt. from grand rebuilders and that went smoothly. after that i put in a new neg wire for the battery and proceeded to install the optima yellow top. when i was clamping down the pos wire it sparked a bit and then pop, the 80a fuse blows.

today i replaced the 80a fuse and the pos terminal. i got everything retensioned/bolted down/reinstalled but when i go to start it i get nothing. i also have nothing inside the cab- no dash lights, no cd player, nothing. the headlights do work though...weird. what else should i be checking? could this have anything to do with the ground/neg? im assuming not as i have headlights still

A fuseable link is a piece of wire made to melt at a certain spec. Toyota uses them right off the battery on the positive side. I think the advantage to them is they are cheap. Did you pop the main 80a fuse or the fuseable link?

Did you check the fuses inside the cab?

i freely and openly admit that im darn near certifiably mentally handicapped... i had my neg/pos wires going to the wrong terminals. DOH! put them back where they belong and now all my lights are working and she cranks but she wont catch. heading down to check the interior fuse box now.

Man, props for your bravery, I would have never had the guts to admit that, although with some batteries its not hard to do. Glad you got it worked out.

WOW Aren't you the guy that told me you were capable of doing your own work/maintenance? Funny how that poor old thing's still running. If it runs weird, don't forget to check and make sure you have the oil cap on. Oh right, those are the kind of people you make fun of in other threads. My Bad.

4x4- im not running anything currently that is drawing any extra power over what the stock alt would have done but the voltmeter doesnt dip when i turn my headlights on so i guess its all good. cant beat an alt that is 2x the output for about the same price.

lvr- never said i wouldnt make mistakes. im pretty sure ive never made fun of anyone else here and if i have im sincerely sorry.

camo- i totally agree. no excuse for that, i just wasnt paying attention

nature- assuming youre serious check the bottom link in my sig.

HAHAHA You're joking right? I guess I totally misinterpreted half of the point of the "22re--oil cap removed, runs wierd" thread these days. And several of the posts I've seen you make in it. My Bad.
