optima battery

I've done some searching but only found stuff about 3rd gens. Is an optima 34R battery required for 2nd gen (3vze) 4runners if i dont want to mess with the cables? Or can I just get the regular 34?

Thanks!

it'll be fine, but you'll want to buy or make a mount for it. because it'll end up sliding into your pulley.

made the mistake in 2 different vehicles...destroyed 2 batteries, one belt, one vacuum line for my dodge's cruise control and made my frame rust on the dodge as well lmao

So the battery is lower than the tie down bracket thing? Could I get like a piece of wood to raise the battery a little? When I bought the 4runner, it didn't have the oem tie down (just a piece of wire holding the battery down lol) so I'm not sure how high the bracket is. Just went to toyota and one up.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I used some wood in my '85 when I ran an Optima up front. I used pressure treated wood, cut to fit the base and then sprayed it with undercoating to protect the wood and help it stick in place. Worked fine while I ran that battery.

i went with 2 pieces of plastic from TAP plastic.

the OEM mount onl holds the batt as 2 points. 2 small points. so i got TAP to cut me 2 pieces that i sandwiched under the OEM mount. when i went and got rid of the now crappy optima and went with the sears diehard platinum series, it fit like a charm too.

the optima red that i bought a few years ago came with a spacer to help raise the battery to stock height.

i was then able to use the stock battery tie downs.

my red top fits under the stock hold downs with the spacer provided. i did just purchase a battery box from ruff stuff to keep in place. love my red tops. had one in my 95 mustang laying on its side for 3 years and just put it in my truck and its good as new. bought a new red top and put that in the stand on its side(its the only way the positive cable will reach)

Yes indeed, just "been there done that", replaced with an auto craft gold, crossing fingers, at least the the stock hold down keeps this one in place.
The "guy" at my local Advance auto parts told me Optimas have gotten a lot of returns since they started making them in Mexico.

My factory battery in my 2002 4Runner just died this week. 8 years old WOW! This is the first thing I've had to replace on the vehicle since new besides fluids.

Was researching the Optima Red, but after the comments here about fitment and battery life, I'm gonna go with something else.

Thinking a Duralast Gold with it's 750CCAs from Autozone.

X2
The Die-Hard Platum is far far better battery than the Optima.
