optima battery
I've done some searching but only found stuff about 3rd gens. Is an optima 34R battery required for 2nd gen (3vze) 4runners if i dont want to mess with the cables? Or can I just get the regular 34?
Thanks!
Thanks!

i went with 2 pieces of plastic from TAP plastic.
the OEM mount onl holds the batt as 2 points. 2 small points. so i got TAP to cut me 2 pieces that i sandwiched under the OEM mount. when i went and got rid of the now crappy optima and went with the sears diehard platinum series, it fit like a charm too.

my red top fits under the stock hold downs with the spacer provided. i did just purchase a battery box from ruff stuff to keep in place. love my red tops. had one in my 95 mustang laying on its side for 3 years and just put it in my truck and its good as new. bought a new red top and put that in the stand on its side(its the only way the positive cable will reach)

The "guy" at my local Advance auto parts told me Optimas have gotten a lot of returns since they started making them in Mexico.

My factory battery in my 2002 4Runner just died this week. 8 years old WOW! This is the first thing I've had to replace on the vehicle since new besides fluids.
Was researching the Optima Red, but after the comments here about fitment and battery life, I'm gonna go with something else.
Thinking a Duralast Gold with it's 750CCAs from Autozone.
