One Pcs Drive Shaft question
Details
1993 toyota 4x4 extra cab dlx
22re
3inch suspension lift
Im going through carrier bearings. Cant keep on in working order for more than 20k miles. Wondering if switching to a one pc drive shaft would work? Has anyone out there tried it? I was thinking of going to Tom Woods DS and having him make me one.
Any experience would be appreciated...

There are a few threads on this. Are you buying the cheap ones or the better ones? One person switched to a one piece and had bad vibrations. Ended up being a bad pinion bearing.
Check out other things before buying a new driveshaft. My 2 cents.

well im a firm believer you get what you pay for. This is one thing not to cheapen out on. I have read the bad pinion bearing thread and that was the 1st thing checked. I took it down to my machine shop with the FSM and they went through it said it was all good,

You need a slip joint somewhere on the driveshaft. If you put a one piece driveshaft in, you'll have to change the output housing on the trans to a slip joint instead of a flange. As for your carrier bearing, I seem to remember something about making sure the two shafts are clocked the same when you put it back as when it came apart or it vibrates and shortens its life. And did your suspension lift change the correct u-joint angle?

The lift has been in place since 1993 when i bought the truck. About 2 yrs abo the carrier bearing went out. Since then i have installed 3 bearings. Longest lasting 20k mile shortest 5k. However none have been a toyota brand, might just go to toyota a get one?

Did you only replace the bearing or the entire housing and bearing assembly? The thick rubber in the carrier gets cracked, dry rotted, and lets the shaft wobble around wearing out bearings and causing vibrations.

Yes you can go with a single long shaft, Show them the whole thing and they will know what to do, Just make sure its balanced good or you will be chasing ghost between balance and pinion bearings.

I know someone who uses this one and never had an issue since.
