OME dakar rear leafs: anyone pulled one leaf out?
i just put in the OME cs009s with an allpro 1.5+ shackle. i got the shackles for next to nothin' from a buddy so i put 'em in. now i see there's too much lift in the back. i'd have to crank the t-bars to get it level again.
however, it's still stiff and bouncy. anything faster than a crawl over a speed bump and the back end bounces hard. its rough. my OME shocks are on the way from ARB, but i'm wondering about pulling the 4th leaf from the pack.
has anyone done this? or should i just keep rolling til they break in more, and consider putting a stock length shackle in?
maybe i could get away with drilling a hole in these shackles??? i do plan on getting a heavy rear tire carrier bumper in the future.
all advice greatly appreciated!

the rear has dropped some since this pic, but it's still high.

I've heard of guys removing a leaf from the Dakar packs. I think it was on the ttora.com forum.
I was actually thinking of doing the OME leaves and running a long shackle on top of the frame rail maybe. I am just gonna end up making my shackles I think.

that is a great idea, wab. thanx.
i think i am going to give it another week to break in as far as they're gonna go, which shouldn't be too much more anyway. i know OME really engineers these things pretty well, so i may leave the pack alone and change out or drill these shackles instead. eventually i'll have this truck loaded up in the back and it will be easier to boost a shackle position than reinsert a leaf.

i spoke to ARB-USA yesterday about the leafs and pulling one out. he said the springs should be fairly broke after 300 miles. he also said my stiffness is most likely cuz i still have the monroes that are designed to match with factory springs. i picked up my OME 94s today.
he made two important points, which i wanted to put in here for anyone searching in the future.
1. if you're going to pull a leaf, pull the 3rd from the top. the CS009s are a 4 thin + 2 thick leaf pack. so pull the 3rd after the military wraps.
2. first thing he asked me was what shackle i had. i told him i have 1.5" over stock, cuz i obtained them for free, and he said that was a major problem. the springs are designed for a stock shackle length. the vibe i'm getting is most likely due to this.
so i'm either going to drill these 5" shackles at 3.5" which is stock, OR try to find some 3.5" or 4" shackles and switch 'em out. then i'll see if shimming is still required to ditch this driveline vibe.
hope this info is handy for someone someday!

the OME leafs are +2-2.5". this appears consistent with my set up. i had to crank t-bars 1" to combine with the 1.5" bj spacers and level out.
i can't confirm they're exactly the same length, but they do fit into stock perch with stock shackle length of 3.5", so i assume yes they are.

as for length, i matched my stockers up to the OMEs side by side when i installed them and they are the same length, so no worries about having to make a new spring perch like when you go with Chevy leafs.
