OK the Haynes manual isn't as good as FSM I admit it

Help please folks, the subject is MAF sensor removal (the connector) I'm removing the airbox and everything else in that corner (stock vehicle).
Pulling the grill, washer bottle, overflow, lights..yada yada..
Seems Haynes doesn't remove this to do an engine rebuild?
As with all other mentions of MAF here, I don't want to break it, I just thought I'd remove it at the connector, and carefully bag it up until reassembly.
2 screw removal doesn't appear the correct method as it doesn't just slide out so I put it back in (lots of clean shiny parts inside) as an electronics guy I know what that means (don't unnecessarily mess with it) seems to be a disconnect with a wire clip going around the outside, not sure how or if to go that route.
That's where my request for help is.
It's just a real hot day here so doing some light duty stuff, too hot for front brakes or drive axles..
Summer's showing up quick here
Thx
J

Red face

Just what are you working on that has a MAF sensor . 95 +

Just unplug the electrical connector and remove it with the air filter housing.

Unless your talking about the AFM which you can also just unplug the electrical connector and remove it .Don`t lose the spring clip we have yet to find a source for new ones .

No need to be taking things apart.

For you generation truck I believe it is an AFM. Air flow meter. Vs Mass air flow sensor. Are you trying to unplug it? If so there is a wire retainer around the plug. Functions kind of like a C-clip. Might take a narrow screw driver to get it started. I hope this helps

The "spring clip" yep, don't want to lose it or break it

I'll go take another look at it

MAF or AFM

Mass Air Flow or Air Flow Meter, it's a California truck, neither is mentioned in the Haynes that I can find, figured it was in Emissions chapter 6, haven't read that one much yet

If you try to part it by removing the screws, then pulling things apart, you'll need some of your precision soldering skills to try and save the AFM from death.

Remove the spring wire lock and part the connector.

I can't believe how many people wreck their VAF by messing with the connector's screws.

We have a "Vane Air Flow" meter, or more descriptively a "Volume Air Flow" meter. It measures volume, not mass. A "Mass Air Flow" meter, like a Karman Vortex type meter, actually measures mass. The difference? A given volume of air in Denver has less mass than in Los Angeles. So RJR's truck has a slightly different "stored fuel trim" than mine does.

Thanks for the info,

I just got a little chicken˟˟˟˟ strike in the process, so I asked,
but now I'm over it.
The 97 Tacoma I traded for the 06 Scion Box had the same thing.
Just didn't recall how to get into it. The clip flipped right off and away I went, back to the races..
I'm going to pull and clean everything that doesn't involve a gasket, except the brakes,
they're already done, up and running, so why mess with it...
People destroy theirs by yanking at things, I don't yank!!

That's why mechanics get paid so much ...

I tore the whole unit down, full of San Diego dirt and sand, put it in a gallon freezer bag for the night.
I'll open the cover tomorrow indoors, with my magnifying lamp and denatured alcohol, not out in the yard.
I'll build you a computer or a cell phone, I'm used to clean small work, not filthy, goobered up auto parts..
Didn't realize I was going to have to Roundup under the truck

Thanks again J

I'd apply a good does of electronic contact cleaner on both plug and socket before reinstalling. Never hurts
