Does anyone know the diameter of OEM wires or the voltage output of the OEM coil. I was considering upgrading to an OEM style but thicker wire and a hotter coil. I'm not into those custom cut em' yourself hack job wires....but maybe some nice 8mm precuts and an Accel super coil. I did this on my FJ and it made it come alive. Any thoughts from anyone who has done this? Yes? No? and Why.

Stock wires are 7mm suppression. The coil is weak whatever it is, I'm half-way to the ACCEL super coil setup you describe. Got the ACCEL 8mm super stock wires(universal/cut-yur-own). I could feel the improvement immediately. Can't wait for the coil. Good times...

I'm using the accel wires also - 8mm, shielded type. Get the correct tool to crimp 'em. I actually bought a V8 wire kit, so I've got spares sitting around.

I'm using an accel coil also. It may strain the ignitor a bit more, but I've noticed no ill effects.. The spark from the stock coil was starting to look a little weak and actually had trouble triggering my timing light.

hey depends on app the 3.0 factory wires are 5mm or 7mm depending on year

the 3.4 is 5mm period and only one company out of canada makes a larger set. those are 8mm i have a set on my truck they are $90 US

Ya they all knock the 3.0, but it also takes me where I need to go, Maby slow, but I love it in every way.

Ok...so I've also read several posts in other places where people state thing like "our motors don't like after market wires". How is that physically possible? What did they do or not do when the after markets were installed? I'm not down with wasting time or money, so I'd just like to understand.

You can get non-supression wires that cause a lot of induction in the nearby factory wiring.. This can cause mistriggers, tach spikes, and other ignition problems.

Going to too large a coil could cause a problem with the ignitor. A larger coil requires a lot more current to drive and fire it. The coil mentioned above is a hotter spark, I'm sure slightly more current, but it's not some huge coil that's going to damage the igntior.

The wires I've mentioned above are 8mm, supression wires, they work fine.
I need to redo a set to provide a little more length on mine - keep them farther away from the turbo.. someone make me a deal on my existing set.

There's 3 types of Super Stock wires available from ACCEL, graphite core suppression, spiral wound suppression or solid copper core. Also, 2 sizes and 4 colors, 7mm or 8mm and yellow, red, black, or blue. All are rated 500 ohms/ft, with high-temp silicone jackets rated to 450 degrees(spiral core jackets rated to 550 deg.).

About the Super Coil, they have an electronic(e-core) model too. It draws less current if that's a concern.

im running a set of cut to fit Taylors on my 22re and have had no problems at all. im looking next to do a coil. dont know which one to go with though.
