OD and speedo problems?
i have a 92 runner and it runs great except for shifting into OD at times. i have done some research and found out about operating temps. before shifting into OD but my speedometer also doesnt work. was wondering if this may cause it not to shift into OD. although very rarely i will look down and i have tracked a couple miles and then it quit working. any help would be greatly appriciated!!!!

If you have a bad VSS1, it will cause the symptoms you are describing.
The Veh. Spd Sensor 1 is on the back of the transfer case, and it sends an electronic signal to the speedometer and the ECM. IF you have a speedometer cable, you don't have a VSS1 and these comments don't apply.
Did you lose all three of Odometer, Speedometer and cruise control? Does the speedometer occasionally (rarely) jump up to the right speed, and then after a second or 20 drop to zero?
The Bad news is that the part is more than $300.
Good luck!

No. It looks like the VSS2 sensor, which screws into the transmission (VSS1 screws into the transfer case, because you have a 2-speed transfer case and driving the speedo from the transmission would be pointless).
RockAuto has one (look under Electrical/Speed sensor). There are various ones depending on transmission. They look different enough that you can pick one out from the picture.
