No spark

Ok guys I'm really scratching my head on this one.

A few days ago my truck died while I was driving it and hasn't started since. 87 truck with a 22r.

I narrowed the problem down to a spark condition but today I tested the coil, ignitor, and wires an they all have the proper resistance and are getting power. The ignitor power transistor works when tested. I replaced the distributor cap and rotor yesterday. Still not getting any spark.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Wow, fast reply! This is the only thing I didn't know how to test. How would you test it? I get a resistance of about 150 ohms on it.

should be between 130 and 190. did you check the gap between the pickup coil and rotor? should be between .008" and .016"

oh, and did you check all your fuses both under the hood and in the kick panel?

I'll check the gap tomorrow, wasn't sure what to do with the pickup coil. I did check all of the fuses and they are fine. I get power to the coil when the ignition is turned on

Checked the pick up coil in the distributor today and it's fine. Wires are all fine, power is where it needs to be, cables are fine, new distributor and cap. Cleaned all of the contact points and ground connections, still..... no spark. I'm completely out of ideas, you guys got any?

Sell It!!!

I would suggest just calling up a good friend, and selling it to him. He will take what parts he wants from the truck (rims, A/C, subwoofer, other misc) solve the problem and sell it back to you for the full purchase price.

My guess...

22re no spark

I have the same problem..It's a friends truck that he just bought. It was running but just died. I put new coil, plugs, cap and rotor. Getting fire to the coil from the switch. The module in the distributor ohm'ed out at 164. According to manual you can not adjust the air gap..you have to replace the whole distributor. Where is the connector where you get the codes from the computer? It is a 1987 4WD. Some one has butchered the wiring and I think they did away with this plug. I'm leaning towards the ignitor being bad. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Me too!

I have the same problem...Let me know if you find out what is wrong. I've replaced the coil, rotor, cap, and plugs. The distributor ohm'ed out at 164. I can not find the plug/box to check the engine codes. Someone has changed engines and it's a mess. Cut wires and all. Mine is a 1987 22re..4WD. Thanks!

Does anyone know how to test the pickup coil directly? Can you just place a multimeter on it while cranking?

I tested the coil and ignitor all speced in but would not work. finally out of dispair i tried the ignitor again and it was bad 2oo from toyota and its back on the road...also my coil and ignitor needed to be replaced. Then I found out you can do a gm ignition control module for like 30 bux and some time i heard the info is on I h8mud.com

Hey guys i have an 1982 pickup 4x4 that only gets spark sometimes. the truck ran 5 years ago then it sat till i bought it

i know for sure My coil and dis.good. i replaced spark plugs and wires, pickup coil, and rotor, new battery/ starter, and all fluids. no blown fuses.i got it to start for about 3 seconds then the next day it didn't want to turn over i beat the (3 month old) starter and it turned over but no spark. i replaced the starter 3 months ago (truck still hasn't ran long then 5 seconds so i don't think it's bad) maybe there's a short / bad connections but i can't find anything. Maybe i burned out the solenoid on the starter. but now it only get spark sometimes i try to start it .

i need help i've been stuck on this problem for 3 months took it to a shop they told me they couldn't find the problem. Anyone have any suggestions?

and also could a bad starter cause no spark? and how about battery wires being exposed at the end before the terminals? none of fuses look to be blown should i just replace them to be safe?
