No power after doing timing
I recently did the head gasket in my 93 4runner with 1994 22re. I got the timing where it should be but there is no power? Could this be vacum not hooked up right? Also i'm runnin 2" suspension lift, 3" body lift and 35" BFG all terrain's on 17" rims, can 4:10 gears push it or swap to 4:88?

if you don't know what I mean by the timing between the crank and cam, then there is a good chance you got the cam 1 tooth off when putting in the timing chain.

Ya i was hoping that was not the case, could it still be vacuum? how do i get the cam lined up properly? is it possible that it is lined up and the reason for no power is the size of tires to the gear ratio of 4:10? it runs really well as is 750 rpm 1st gear is really strong but 2nd through 5th are sluggish?

In theory then if I up my horse power and up the gears it should be ok? what kind of performance upgrades can a 22re with 220 000 km take? Headers, cold air?

Thanks for the info! i am also thinking of doing a motor swap, is the v6 or chevy 350 small block better? if so would I have to re do everthing in the drive train? or just a re-build on the 22re? with 5:29 gears

Timing wise - Was the crank key and cam key way at 12 o'clock and the timing mark on the cam sprocket in line with the measurment on the timing chain (Cam to crank timing)?

remember these 22re's bearly have more than 120hp when they rolled off the factory floor. Less than that in toque. They are not know to be powerhouses. 35's with factory gears kill what little torque there is.

As far mods, all my stuff is bolt on or stuff iIcan remove and transfer to a different truck. I just did all the mods in my sig in the last few months, I have 303,000 km on mine.

Again, your missing the point here ...regear your diffs before you do an engine swap. You will have to anyways reguardless of what engine you have in there. A 3.4 engine on 4.10 gearing & 35's and you will be in the same spot you are in now.
Gears are a lot easier to do than an engine swap and a whole lot cheaper too and you might find out the gearing will suit your needs.
