Exclamation No Oil Pressure!!! Major 3.0l Oil Leak

Hey everyone, My name is Dan and I am a newbie. Anyways, I just purchased an 88 4runner with 151,000 miles on it. It ran good when I purchased it. I was taking it to the badlands off road park to day when I lost all oil pressure. As soon as I started to pull over the engine stopped. I popped the hood and oil was sprayed all over the place. it was leaking down downt he front of the engine somewhere and the Y junction for the air filter was coated in oil. My guess is that it could either be a driver side cam seal or the oil pump maybe blew a seal. I just had the oild chance right before I left. Im guessing it had dino in it and I changed to Valvoline hight milage 5-30W. Filter is tight. I dont think the oil change had anything to do with it. I just might be a coinsedence. It happened 100 miles after the oil change. Any ideas?????????

Who changed the oil? The filter might have been 'double gasketed'.

Any time you take your truck to one of those places, you are at the mercy of idiots. Double gasketing occurs when the rubber gasket of an old filter gets stuck on the engine and you put the new filter on top of it. Two gaskets sandwiched together makes for a crappy seal. Filters can come from the factory with two gaskets stuck together as well. I'm not positive that this is your problem, but it is something to take a look at.

Thank you. I will look into it. Im not to sure it is the filter because the filter is still white with no oil on or around it. But I will check that. Thanks.

Anyone have any other ideas??

What is the issue that a "double gasket" might cause? I'm not seeing the connection (his first post said filter was tight - I took this as not leaking)

Tight has nothing to do with it. A double gasket can cause a major oil leak.

just out of curiosity would the double gasket be noticed right away or would it take awhile cause failure?

A double gasket can hold a seal initially, but can blow at any time. The fact that your oil filter is still clean, might suggest that it was the source of the spray.
