No more emissions - mods?

So my truck is now an old man. 89 22re 4x4.

It doesn't need emissions any more as of this last test.

Question is : Would there be any issues with removing the smog crap? Could I do a non-cat exhaust? Anything I can do to benefit from the old age of my pickup?

it depends on your state and county. I removed the EGR and cat from my 87 and i feel no difference, but I'm going to have to figure something out when I move back to PA. Even though it isn't pipe-tested, they still do a visual check for EGR stuff or it wont pass inspection.

Good question! I just passed my last e-check 2 weeks ago and am thinking about getting rid of my cat, though it may be smelly. People have mixed feelings about this topic but i wanna see what they think.

Can't you guys just find a place to pass your trucks? I have to get all my cars and trucks passed by someone who will look the other way. Tint is way to dark to pass here in NC.

That said I am not running a cat but I removed mine because it was fairly clogged. I don't notice any HP increase, but I did get a bump in mpg. Plus it sounds better with my headers and flowmaster exhaust.

Not really much to gain from deleting emissions, other than a little cleaner guts. Just block off the EGR, use a pop can folded over, then as a solid gasket. If you do it right, it'll be invisible for visual inspection. Disconnecting and capping some of the vac lines can be done, use color coding to remember what goes where, if you need to pass a visual inspect. PAIR can be deleted/blocked same as EGR. It won't really get you much, other than simplification, and cleaner without the exhaust being sucked in. Oh, and some like to remove the PCV line, and replace with a breather on top of VC. Just keep the stuff you remove, so it can be reinstalled at some point if needed.

I'm in Washington. As far as I know unless I sell my truck it will never need an inspection of any kind now.

Even if all these mods don't do anything but clean up the engine and increase mpg by .008 I will still do it.
